Hey, nice prints! I'm looking into starting 3D printing myself sometime after I graduate with my bachelor's in a few months. My older brother has a printer himself that he's put together from a kit from China, and I've had a few opportunities to interact with it. Looking forward to seeing more!

OMG you are so awesome. I've been looking into 3D printing for my own modeling career on the side. Quick questions:
How much do your printers && their materials usually cost??
Also do you feel Blender is more user friendly than Maya or is it just a budget choice b/c it's free??

Thank you!
The type of printer I use for most of my work nowadays costs anywhere from $500 to $3,000. Materials are usually $30/kg.
And yes, I use Blender because it's free. I did try out multiple 3D modeling programs before I decided on Blender; however they were all equally user unfriendly. Blender won because I found the most tutorials on it, so I found it the easiest to pick up.

Which 3D printer do you use? I've been looking at many and am not quite sure which would be best. Your 3D prints look very nice and I'm looking for one that can get proportions nicely without the the model becoming disfigured.

Alright, this is going to be a long answer.
I currently have two working printers, and a new one on the way. The first one is an Objet30, which is really high-end and out of most people's budgets, so as much as I love the printer, I can't exactly recommend it, unless you have a lot of money to spend. My other printer is a MakerGear M2, which is a more reasonable $1775 (USD). I've had this printer for two years now and it still works great (although, admittedly it got pretty jostled when I moved across the country. It's back in working order now). I should also mention that I use online services a lot, especially for masks. Depending on who gives me the cheaper price, I use either Shapeways or iMaterialize.
If I were you, I would go with either the Ultimaker Original or Ultimaker 2. The Ultimaker Original has a long-standing reputation for reliability and print quality. It also has a large community, so if you have any problems with the printer, it is easy to troubleshoot them. From what I can tell, the Ultimaker 2 is more refined version of the original Ultimaker with many of its upgrades built in (and a larger build volume).
For what it's worth, I am planning on getting an Ultimaker Original ASAP. Why the Ultimaker Original? For one, it's about half the price. Two, it has a 2-4 week lead time instead of 8-10 weeks. Three, it has a dual extruder upgrade (I want to experiment with water soluble support material, and a dual extruder is necessary for this). Four, you can buy it as a kit, so you can easily paint it (I have a thing for black printers).
Another notable printer is a Delta/Rostock/Kossel printer. This is the printer that I am currently waiting on. Since the bed doesn't move, so you have fewer print failures and no need for bed leveling. Allegedly they can also print faster. They can certainly print BIG things (my printer has an 11" base and 19.5" build height), but I have not worked with one for extended periods of time, so do some research if you want to go with this option
If I were to make a recommendation from the printers I have worked with, I would go with a MakerGear M2. If I were to make a recommendation based on a printer I want to get myself, I would suggest the Ultimaker Original.

Hello~! I have a question... I know you make models in Blender and CNC print masks. Is there any chance that you would be willing to possibly accept a DA point commission to render a wearable model of a particular mask for me? Just the rendering, I have a CNC machine to run the information through. I'd appreciate it beyond belief if you'd be willing~
Thank you for your time

Sure, I would be up for that. Send me some reference pics of the mask and we can work from there. My email is clothbender@gmail.com

You are welcome!
I think we have met once or twice. Does the name "Olivia" ring a bell? If not, I wouldn't be too surprised - I have been out of the cosplay/convention scene for a few years now because of school.
