Description ...i've had the design for Darue's ink crane monster done up since august but i've never used it might make a turtle ink monster next...

wasn't in a very good mood today...felt like drawing something that wasn't full of desu >_> i'm quite happy with this in terms of how the monster turned out, kinda stuffed up the foot though (one part was accidentally coloured in)...i should try drawing things like this more often...

urrr...the image has gone all blurry - __ - it was more crisp...

Wow, cool!
I actually like the foot very much, even though it might be kinda strange, I think it looks really cool.

Say, what resolution do you work or scan at Chicin? If you want a nice crisp look, you should shoot for at least 600dpi with lineart which will end up with a sharper image even when you rescale it. colour doesn't really need to be much more than 300 or 350 dpi though. You can also upload a larger image here for the sharp resolution and choose smaller dimensions for the actual display.

You might also want to download XnView which is a good photo-editing app that gives you a lot of nice options for resizing methods and colour depth and image export and what and experiment with that all a bit. Whatever you're using to scale down is probably using a Lanczos method which tends to blur things up a bit and seriously bloat the colour depth. You might have better luck with Hanning or even Cubic.

uh...i'm not sure...probably 300dpi i'm guessing...though it scanned in fine, i just had to filter it a lot to stop the lines and stuff from being all blotchy. i don't know what dpi my scanner can scan up to, my scanner is a few years old and fairly small(heh it just barely scans A4 things any good)

hmm, i might take a look at it i just remembered why it was blurry dA keeps on making my stuff slightly blurred when i scale stuff down...and my photoshop has been weird lately and blurs things when i scale it down as well...

The easiest thing you could do is just keep the image at 300dpi when you upload it to DA and there's an option to choose what scale you want it to display at on the submission screen. My pictures are actually giant 600 - 1200 dpi monsters that I just select to be viewed at maybe 1000 pixels wide or so.

ahh yeah, i guess i could do that...though the dA scaling thing i've found tends to make things go a little weird sometimes if it doesn't like the file format...or it just stuffs up in general

I've been messing with my formats a little lately for uploading and a 300dpi picture looks kinda fuzzy when DA resizes it, but 600 - 1200 dpi looks better. 350dpi might be good for colour.

NinRac [2010-10-18 20:07:28 +0000 UTC]

Interesting, it looks a like a dragon head than a crane head to me but I can't think of the last time I've seen a crane

I definitely can see it as something not to mess around and agitate.

As for Darue, blurry is a good thing because of all the ink and the flow. Sure it detracts a little from your detail but it fits more naturally with the fluidity of Darue's ink...especially when the crane is the focus of the image

chicinlicin In reply to NinRac [2010-10-22 11:06:01 +0000 UTC]

well it's just meant to be a bit like a crane...and a monster, i guess that's good that it looks a bit dragonish then

it'll peck your face D :< ...or somethin...or just melt

i guess so, i like how it looks on paper better looks more "inky"...probably cause i haven't put tonns of filters over it my next one of these (with a turtle thing) probably won't have darue, i like having the ink monster as the main focus

NinRac In reply to chicinlicin [2010-10-22 19:03:43 +0000 UTC]

Yeah....probably needs the added touch since cranes aren't that dangerous or intimidating. Sometimes even used as a sign of peace.

It'll charge at me with full force and go splat!

Heheh....maybe you like it better on paper since it shows your skill more~_^ The actual ink you used probably would help but there isn't much you can do about that for digital media

Runaway turtle!

ooh that's good, i changed the res after i uploaded it (it used to be a bit smaller) so that might've fixed up the blur. thank you
