Oh another fabulous concept from youhoo! I wasn't sure whether I liked this enough to click on the thumb in my messages at first, but I'm really glad I did in the end or I wouldn't have really seen what it was all about! And now I really like it because of the concept. I also like the isolation of colour to concentrate the viewer's gaze to that area as if there really is something they should be looking for. Nice work continues to impress. I don't know if I like the huge amount of floor though... probably a personal thing.

Interesting quote. I'm not all too sure about how it fits in with the photo, but I do still like the photo itself. Very cool room you've got here. I'd love to see more photos of it, with other interesting angles and perspectives.

Good work!

yay thankyou very much my friend, yah it is a very interesting building inside and out, may go back one day. ahh the quote...for me anyway life is all about decisions(sp?) and choices and all through our lives we make mistakes, we make the wrong choices, the 'doors' in this picture are the doors of choice we have every day, we choose to open one and that leads us into the next stage of our life. if we make a mistake and choose a wrong direction then we just get on with it, its character building. its experience. the whole point of the singled out door is to try and elevate the fact that some choices are more bold, more 'in view' and obvious than others but are sometimes not the best option. i really hope that has cleared it up and not made me out to sound like a nutbar. All the best, Ben.

smellykapcie In reply to chapterone [2005-03-13 03:52:22 +0000 UTC]

no no. Not a nutbar at all. In fact, I understand now.

Thanks for the explanation. You've cleared it up for me.

Definitely awsome photo, especially the splash of colour to lead the eye. The building itself has a very interesting design to it as well. Great lighting and use of the space as well, great job

WayOverTheRainbow [2005-03-07 12:38:00 +0000 UTC]

the foreground space works really well with your idea but perhaps you could try being more sophisticated with the colour. Perhaps you could experiment with halftones and translucent colours subtley coming out through the rest of the frame to really draw the eye into the whole space. Would take time but you have the skill!! ;o)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chapterone In reply to WayOverTheRainbow [2005-03-07 15:52:08 +0000 UTC]

yeah that's possible, you mean like keeping the original coloured image and keeping maybe some sublte tones in the items in the scene, for instance a little bit of gold in the plant holders? just subtle enough not to notice it really? and little pieces of colour all around but still keeping the focus on the doorway. could be done. could look good. i'll give it a wee go. love the floaty icon mate.... very nice.

NvisionArts [2005-03-07 05:43:36 +0000 UTC]

Very nice.

Good comp and concept. Very much like it.

I do have to agree with the one comment someone else made about the frame lines.
I think the outer frame is great, but that inner black frame line is a bit strong and does tend to keep
the eye from truly entering the comp space there without a lot of effort.

Perhaps either lightening that line, thinning it out, or perhaps doing away with it altogether would solve that
issue? Or perhaps changing it's color to match those of the center door might do well also? Personally, I would either
grey it to almost nothing or do away with it altogether. Just a thought.

Otherwise, excellent work!!

Love the quote also, one of my fav's.

Peace.

NvisionArts In reply to NvisionArts [2005-03-08 10:13:29 +0000 UTC]

Oh, and I forgot to add,... don't fret it, we all make mistakes and it's hard for any
of us to view or display our own work objectively many times.

I always run my works by others, friends, relatives, etc. before publicly displaying anything as I
often can't even focus on framing and stuff like that at all after spending hours, days or whatever on doing the actual piece.

With photographic works, for years I always tended to simply go with either all white or black framing.
It's only been in recent years I have had enough courage - creatively speaking - to try using textured, colored, and
gradient type framing with my photos. But, it's still tricky. The wrong framing can really mess up an otherwise great piece. But playing around with it and experimenting is all part of the fun and rewards of the creative process.

In the ned, ultimately we have to be happy with the work ourselves, because no matter what, no matter how good a piece is, we can't please everyone. There are always going to be those who don't like it for whatever reason.
Ourselves and those who do like it are the ones we need consider.

If I like a piece, and even if everyone in the whole world, but one other person, like it too, then that's all I care about.
All it takes is one other person to like it, and it's a success.

Remember,... "those who strive to please everyone, pleases no one, least of all themselves"
(to paraphrase slightly).

Peace.

I like the concept a lot, I like how it looks (to me at least) almost like a computer game.

Personally I'm not sure about the black lines on the border though. For some reason I seem to focus on them a lot, I think because they're possibly too dark/thick. I dunno, that's just me hehe nice though.. very nice. I'm glad I'm watching you!

I always finish things off badly. I tend to rush them, and then post them. After looking at them a few times I see the mistakes I made. But I never go back and fix them - heh, and I'm not sure why.

Cheers anyway - keep up the good stuff
