Oh, yes, I had the great fortune of happening upon Jackie's work last week,....

I simply love her watercolor work, don't see enough of that on here at DA I don't think.
Although I seldom paint in water colors or oils anymore (haven't in years, acrylics are my thing),
I do appreciate and love works in those mediums. Jackie's flowers are simply wonderful, the other work too, but those flowers are great. I need to go back and explore her gallery some more, I am sure there are several more works there I need to fav for sure.

Actually I was planning on doing that very thing this morning (morning here) but I kind of got distracted by another wonderful artist and her works before I could get to it.

[Sorry about that, Jackie. But I will get there later, I promise.]

I like her daughters work too, she has a lot of potential also I can tell.

They both seem like nice people ( as well as talented) and I always enjoy meeting nice people.

Peace.

I wanted to thank you for your favorites and then I saw your gallery. Amazing. First, I though the animal paintings were actually photos and I said to myself 'wow, what beautiful and intense colours.. I can't believe he photographed all these animals".. then I realized those were paintings and I must say you're very talented if you mananged to paint and give them such smoothness that makes other thing it is a real image captured with a camera. Congratulations!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NvisionArts In reply to mybittersweetness [2005-03-20 21:58:05 +0000 UTC]

You are quite welcome for the fav's add. I liked it.

You too are very talented.

Thank you for your kind comments.

Actually, yes, I have photographed many animals around the world in their natural habitats,
I worked many years as a commercial part time (4 to 7 months per year) professional wildlife and nature
photographer. But the animals you mentioned here are paintings, unless otherwise noted.

I do paint from my many reference photos to assure accuracy in the work.

The smoothness you mentioned in the paintings is due to a couple of factors.

First, I generally only paint on ultra-smooth canvas, illustration board, masonite or
water board. Second, it is the style and technique in how I paint,... I paint in a type of illustration
style with watered down acrylics, painting in thin washes or layers, slowly building up to the luminosity
and final detail I am seeking, there is no texture in my work. Sometimes, I finish the final layers using
airbrushes to further enhance the luminosity and detail I want.

I do not paint impasto (well, occasionally, but rarely).

I have been painting realism and photo-realism for over 20 years now and long ago mastered
my techniques used - not to say I am perfect, just that I am very accustomed to working in this style.

Yes, that is the goal of realism or photo-realism as a style, to fool the eye into thinking it is a photo.
If the audience or viewer believe upon casual observation it is a photo, then it is successful as a work.
If not, then it's a failure.

The very greatest compliment we photo-realistic painters can ever get is when a viewer exclaims,
"I can't believe that is a painting, no way!". Then we know we are doing something right.

Anyway, again, thank you for the view, visit and comments.
It is very much appreciated.

Keep up the good work!

Peace.

I can't believe you put my painting as a fav--your work is just so awesome. I am going to enjoy watching for new art from you. Yes, we are sort of neighbors. I live in Southern Colorado near the foothills of the Wet Mountain range. It is lovely here. We have a cabin in Westcliffe that is around the 9500 ft mark with lots of nature. I love all God has given us to enjoy but the mountains are so special. Thanks for the fav.

if you've used photoshop in any way they go in DIGITAL art and all of your pictures have so obviously been made in photoshop..

...hey i wonder if i should report you as a violation...

Oh, and I forgot to add,....

If and when I do create something either expressly in Photoshop® or any other digital painter type program
that is originally created there, or has been significantly added to, I always say so and place it in the correct category. If you had visited my gallery you would have seen this.

Peace.

Again, thanks for the comments.

They are appreciated, even if misinformed.

I hate to tell you, but you are quite wrong,... simply using photoshop
in "anyway" on an image of a painting doesn't automatically mean they go into digital art.
You should read the definitions more carefully so you better understand before you make such
misinformed comments.

For point of information, my paintings are often run through photoshop to do minor corrections to
brightness and contrast, to remove dust and scratches from the photos of the work, and occasionally
to bring out the colors in an otherwise too gray or or badly lit image (photo) of the work, to bring the image nearest to the original as possible. Many of the paintings I submit here and may submit may have been done years ago and the photos of them are not all professional quality.

But everything I place into the Traditional Paintings category is originally created as a painting basically as it is seen with only minor corrections done in Photoshop when needed. This is my prerogative as I wish to display my work in the best possible way as is possible,... especially when being offered as prints for sale. So if I need to make minor corrections to old photos or bad photos of the original work after scanning that is fine and totally acceptable in this category. It does not make the images digital art.

As far as reporting me, that's fine, you do what you feel you must and your conscience finds acceptable to you.
I have nothing to say one way or another about that. I certainly am not afraid of any implied threats of that.
I can document my work when necessary.

But if you do report me, do me and yourself a favor and include this what I wrote you about this issue. See what DA Administration has to say about it. I think you will find what I have said is accurate.

Again, thanks for the comments, even if less than constructive.

Peace.

your pictures are complete fakes. example- in Elephant III H you can tell its just a photograph thats been edited in photoshop.you get all the hard bits perfect and then theres a really simple mistake like the colour on the tusks is way to bright its a very very basic rule when painting(espessially when the rest of the picture is so dark) that oyu don't use pure white it stands out way to much which doesn't make much sense as if they are real paintings then you must be very good at murgeing colours. look most of his pictures full size and you'll know what i mean.

i can tell from experience look at my paintings [link]

NvisionArts In reply to marine-artist-james [2005-03-11 08:32:20 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for your comments and opinion.

Much appreciated.

First of all, about rules.

I have been painting and creating art since I was a child, which would make it over
36 years now,... I am more than familair with what the "rules" are and are not.

I also teach art and I also teach my students that "rules" are merely guidelines, not something
set in stone that is sacrosanct no matter what. Only the most undynamic and uncreative of artists
strictly adhere to "rules". I tell each student to use their own determinations and techniques that work best
for them, to defy the rules and do what their muse guides them to do. To reach beyond any pat and determined
methods, guides, or "rules" to make their own work unique to them as they feel best. Experimentation is the heart and lifeblood of true creativity.

I quite often paint with pure titanium white when it is appropriate. Especially when rendering something that is in bright sunlight or the suns rays. When I am trying to paint realism or photo-realism especially, I paint what the eye sees or perceives. Very seldom do bright objects seen in full direct sunlight appear with any color whatsoever as the suns rays wash them out to the naked eye, especially very lightly colored or white objects.

Just as we often see the sun painted as yellow, that is not the realism of a midday sun seen directly by the naked eye. Where one foolish enough to star into the noon sun, one would find it appeared far more white than yellow.

As far as whatever being fakes.

You are entitled to your obviously predisposed opinion, that's fine.

But until you have walked a mile in another's shoes - and most importantly, just because you may not be able to do something yourself - I wouldn't be so quick to make rash statements based upon one's own opinion without any facts to back it up.

Again, thank you for your comments.

I do appreciate them even if they were far from constructive in any way.

Peace.
