Mitch is from Calgary Alberta Canada. At the time he was the only human they knew...so it seemed the best place for me to stage it. Why Canada? well nobody ever makes Canada the bad guys and most Canadians I talk to don't even know about CSIS, but they do know about the NSA CIA and FBI. So it makes it seem even more covert. It's just funnier that way, I think. It doesn't really come up in the story. Well it kind of does...that's why Mitch got picked up in Utah.

I'd love to get my hands on a good top-break revolver like that.
I can only guess those are energy cells in that case, which looks like are connected at the base of the grip. Another guess as to it's use, judging by the lighted region near where the cylinder meets the barrell, is to either enhance the projectile's speed, effect, and/or damage.

I had some time to chew on the information from this picture, and something keeps sticking. It states that the Canadian Intelligence had foreknowledge of the Clavarians and their mission. It's not unreasonable to think that the other national intel groups may have had some info too.
Maybe they should have investigated Mitch's coincidental abductions a bit further before they started partying...
