Spring was coming around nicely, with pleasant warm air from the east playing with the pine tops and early green bushes. Rhust's band was foraging along the northern coast of Sidus Isle, were the warm air and sun, combined with the coolness of the ocean, created a perfect location for this time of year. The group was slightly spread out among the thinned out pines. Residing on a cliff that overlooked the sparse beach below. Marble and Flint had been overly excited to see the ocean for the first time, and had spend almost all morning playing around in the shallows. Now, both foals were draped out across the grasses in the sun, totally exhausted.
As the harem quietly continued along, nipping at the fresh blades of grass, something caught Rhust's eyes. While munching a mouthful he looked down at the beach, hoping to catch the movement he'd seen before. There she was, rubbing her side to a dried up, drift wood log. His ears perked up, acknowledging the odd light shine of her coat, glinting whenever the sun caught it. He'd never seen that before. His eyes darted along the beach in search for any other horses, but none were in sight. Unknowingly the stallion scented the air, while finishing off the last of his meal. As the strange mare moved, Rhust shifted his weight, stretching his neck to try and follow her. But she went out of sight behind the lower pines.
For a moment the stallion stood still, his tail flicking. It crept under his skin again, now a familiar feeling of curiosity, and 'want'. Go after her?
...Yes.
Rhust flung his head as he turned, walking up to Oren. The velvet-antlered buck looked up, immediately taking up a sturdy pose, ready to take orders. "Keep watch while I'm gone." Rhust told him, receiving a curt nod in response. He didn't stop his pace as he moved over to his lead mare.
"Mysha," He breathed, as he nudged her neck. The chestnut mare was slightly caught by surprise, but leaned into his touch. "What is it, my lead?" She whispered back. "I saw someone down at the beach." The splash stallion rasped, "Move if necessary, I won't be long." Before giving her the softest smile once he caught her eyes, he walked off. A slight urgency in his step as he hoped not to find the beach empty once he reached it.
He carefully threaded down the sandy cliffs, sliding down somewhat as the sand structures broke under his weight. He trotted out, over the dunes to reach the large drift wood branch, turned crisp and white over the years. He immediately smelled her, and looked around. Then he caught her, looking right back at him. Her light eyes, squinting at him. Rhust couldn't help but roll his neck in response, slowly walking over to her.
"You want something?" The mare called out, sounding tough. Rhust cocked his head. "Are you alone?" He asked, ignored her question. She flicked her tail and seemed irritated, but the tiniest smirk ghosted across her lips. "What's it you?" The young mare replied, inspecting the stallion before her now. "Feeling lucky, huh? Finding a mare by herself?" "I just-" "Thinking 'that would be an easy claim', huh?" She cut him off, and Rhust reeled. "No. I just-" "Well, I don't come that easily." She chirped, now, an obvious smirk on her lips.
She trotted past him, flinging her tail at him as she did. "Let me see if you're even worth the chance." She stated, before swiftly turning and lunging at him. Rhust reacted on instinct, recoiling and preparing on impact, too late to turn himself. She only nipped lightly though, before rearing, randomly flinging her legs at his face. The young stallion as taken aback. What is this? Is she fighting me? Or just... The young mare didn't seem to be too serious, but Rhust couldn't help but respond to her advances.
As she tried to nip at his hocks, he bowed down with her. As she turned to kick, he readied himself to return the blow, or avoid it all together. It was when she bit his neck, hard, that he realized she was getting more serious, luring out his attacks. He caught her eyes, which glinted with pride and mirth. She even dared to stick out her tongue at him as she trotted off. Very well then, I'll play your game!
Still Rhust wasn't certain if this mare was serious in her brawl, or just playing. But he was certain that whatever it was they were doing, she was enjoying it. Her sweet laughter echoed across the water, and into the soft spring air.
