Case File: ZT-7-443 " Formicidae"
Threat Category: 1
Status: Neutralized (Earth)/ Active (Galaxy)
Physical Description: The Formicidae are a race of insectoid life forms. On average, they stand between 6 and 8 feet tall and can weigh anywhere between 350 and 500 pounds. Their most prominent feature is the scythes on the end of each of their four arm. The larger scythes is primarily used to aid in movement and to excavate tunnels in the nests. The smaller scythes are used for more precise workings and for manipulating objects such as food or Formicidae eggs. Both are useful for combat. The mouth is a horrifying combination of powerful mandibles and whirling sharp teeth that perfect for grinding up the flesh of anyone unfortunate enough to get in their grasp. The monsters' four eyes see in the infrared end of the spectrum, but have depth perception. The crest on top of their head allows them to communicate with each other via psychic link. The crest is a vulnerable point; damaging or removing the crest will leave the Formicidae disoriented and may even prove fatal to it.
There are three types of Formicidae: Soldiers, Drones, and Masters. Soldiers are the most commonly seen variety, serving as both foot soldiers and laborers, building the nests, collecting "nutrients" from the surrounding area, and defending the nest from intruders. Drones, differentiated from Soldiers by their red coloration and wings, primarily protect the Masters from harm and expand the Masters' psychic influence by serving as living relays. Masters are larger than both Soldiers and Drones. They possess a fifth eye and are black in coloration. The Masters are the strategists of the Formicidae. Incredibly intelligent, they work together in groups of three, directing the Soldiers and Drones to expand their nests and crush any resistance. Formicidae exclusively reproduce asexually, every Formicidae is capable of spitting out an egg that will hatch and grow into a full grown Formicidae within a matter of hours. In addition, Soldiers can alter their bio-chemistry to become either Drones or Masters if there are none present. These two facts makes it extremely difficult to remove any Formicidae infestation.
History and General information: The Formicidae originate from the planet Hymenoptera in the Andromeda Galaxy. Humankind first encountered them in 1966, when a mining operation in Colorado accidently unearthed a Formicidae colony ship that had crashed on Earth approximately 6000 years ago. The Formicidae quickly slaughtered the mining crew before moving on to a nearby town and began converting it into a massive nest. Several Science Units quickly arrived on scene, but were unsuccessful in combating the invaders, leading to a several week stalemate until Operative John Smith devised the Psionic Disruptor which sent the Formicidae into disarray, giving the Science Units a badly needed edge in the battle. Even then, it would be several more weeks before the Formicidae were completely eradicated.
The Formicidae returned in 1972, when a warship, drawn to Earth via a distress signal sent by the colony ship years earlier, arrived with fresh soldiers, making landfall outside Osaka, Japan. This time, the Formicidae attempted a more stealthy approach, quietly kidnapping vagrants and draining the life out of the local plant life, working in secret to expand their numbers before attacking. A local Science Unit exposed them before this could come to fruition and the Formicidae were all destroyed in a prolonged 42 hour battle with Japan's newly minted Android Defense Corp.
The Formicidae returned one finally time in 1986, allying themselves with a race called the Serpentes (see Case file: KK-8-952). The two races devastated the American West Coast, with the Formicidae establishing nests throughout California. However, the alliance abruptly collapsed due to mutual betrayals. The Serpentes infected the Formicidae with a highly contagious virus genetically engineered to only affect the insects. Most of the bugs died within a few days and the few remaining ones proved too weak to fight back.
(Note: Though it has been several years since our last encounter with the Formicidae, there is always the possibility that they could return. If you suspect that there is Formicidae activity in your area, please, contact your local ISC branch immediately.)

To be fair, the Case File did state that it is a mutual betrayal, implying that both partners of the alliance stabbed each other in the back. It is possible the Case File merely showed how the Serpenta race crippled their former allies, without showing the manner of treachery that the Formidicae pulled on the Serpenta.
In any case, the possibility that both sides are dirty traitors to one another merely contributes to their statuses as abhorrent alien monsters, with the additional non-endearing traits of suffering from chronic backstabbing disorder, as well as short-sighted, self-destructive malevolence.

Nicely done! And I think you just provided me with an idea for the next alien monster!

I suggest an Exterminatus on these things.
Just to be sure.

Wow, THIS guy is even uglier than the last one!
And what is up with those arms? They look like they're nothing but scythes.

The larger scythes doubles as limbs for locomotion (I imagine them as semi-/fully-quadrupedal, and we're just looking at it from the front, while it's rearing up for the kill), while the smaller scythes allows for tasks that requires delicate and precise manipulation. Both work together perfectly well to tear their victims apart in a shower of blood, gore and agonizing screams.
