Description It warms my heart to draw a scene like this for Kala and Varden And man, has it been a long time coming.

A big thing for me about Captain Treta as a love interest is just how affectionate he is. There are two sides to his coin: strong and vicious on one side, soft and caring on the other.
Once Kala and Varden start exploring the romantic side of their relationship, he asks her to share his cabin with him. Even before they're bonded, he wants her close by, to keep her safe, share her warmth and feel her breath as she sleeps beside him.

Asmurian culture stems from a pride mentality, left over from their ancient ancestors. One of the practices still observed by many Asmurian communities is that of 'denning.' Families, romantic partners, friends and other close groups (such as warrior parties) typically den together, all sharing one sleeping space. In their society, there is no romantic or sexual association made with sleeping next to someone. It is practical for warmth and protection and helps to strengthen the communal bond amongst those involved.
If you were staying at an Asmurian's home, for example, it would be customary for your host to invite you to den with them and their family, as a sign of trust and hospitality.
That isn't to say that romantic partners don't den with one another, they absolutely do. Separate, private, denning accommodations are sought when they have other, romantic activities in mind apart from sleeping.

Captain Treta has spent a great deal of time off-world, mingling with other alien cultures. He's learned that this practice is uncommon for most of the aliens he's encountered and so does not practice denning with his crew (AKA everyone aboard the Monoceros has their own sleeping arrangements). The closer he get's to Kala, however, the more inclined he is to share this element of his culture with her.

Once they're together, they sleep in his bed every night. At the start, Treta catches himself longing for evening when he can again take Kala into his arms, hold her close and feel her heart beating as they both drift off to unknowable dreaming

Here's a similar scene I drew of them several years ago (Heads up, there is mild nudity) :
