Guess: *seriously* Plus, there's the small fact that yes, in the eyes of some, you might have *airquotes* "messed up" but at least you didn't just try to forget the whole thing and ignore whatever consquences came as a result. I mean, I can't speak for your dad, but I think that's pretty damn impressive.

Ned: *smiles* hey, it's just me I guess. especially as mayor, I always feel I have some sort of responsibilty to make things right or better. I mean, back when Horton was carrying the speck on the clover, I still felt I needed to keep WhoVille safe somehow, even when I had no control over what happened to the speck *adds with a shrug* besides, I like kids
[that logic actually makes me think Ned would actually stay with Guess for Tara, if Ned felt responsibility over a speck he couldn't control, then he'd feel responsibility over raising an "accidental" child]

(i think you're pretty dead on with that logic- pen and i were talking about it the other day- the guy always feels responsible in some way or another, even for things that are completely not his fault)
Guess: *smiles back* Well, I don't know if you've noticed McDodd....but you DID have control over what happened to the speck...and you DID end up saving it.
(well he did, if you count conducting the epic "We are here" scene, saving both the speck and horton)
