The cheap ones are a bit hard but I've found a set of Van Gogh Oil Pastels and they are soft and creamy it's like painting with lipstick. Layering and blending is different from colored pencils though, it took me a while to get used to it. Last time I've used OP was way back in high school.

Love the vibrant colors. Do you spray oil pastels with fixative, or are they pretty stable?

Thank you Pam, I think there's a specific type of fixative for oil pastels but I don't know if it will work on different brands though. Unlike oil paints, oil pastels never fully dries out and it remains tacky. It's often recommended to frame it behind glass to prevent dust accumulation. I'm not good with brushes and solvents, I guess this is the closest I can get to oil painting.
