I still haven't removed this picture from my Subcribed queue because I can't stop looking at her. Such a strong and complex face! A veteran to the bone, but her eyes look like they've seen the things you can't forget in your sleep, but also the reasons why we still need to fight.
And I love the way the framing design makes this look like a portrait that'll still be hanging over her children's children's hearth for many generations.
"Her? She's our ancestor (Title) Irmengard; she fought in the (Name) Wars, freed the City of (Place), and defended the Black Pass against the (Enemy). They say she took her scar fighting the (Legend), but I've always wondered if (Alternate). And some say her memorial tomb at (Place of Honor) is empty; that her bones lie mingled with (her last foe's) at (Epic Location), but it is whispered among the (Peoples) that her body was never found, and that her indomitable spirit still defends the (Mountain Gate) against the (Ultimate Evil) for all time."
(But the family still uses the silly lullaby she made up for her first child; they just don't mention it to outsiders, and the same thing goes for her three-times mended sock.)
Okay, so I have no idea whether any of this is appropriate. But that's the sorta thing I see when I look at this picture: an immensely human woman who's seen great joy and great sorrow, pain and fear and triumph (both the wins she's proud of and the ones she wishes she could forget), and knows that human life is always too brief but worth the living.
A wonderful, wonderful picture!
In awe,

Wow! Such a sweet and thoughtful comment.
I won't bore you with the details of her story but your vision of her is pretty spot on and I am super happy that my own feelings for the characters was in some way transmitted through the picture.
Thank you very much! Reading this really made my day.

she looks a bit older and more weathered than your previous illustration of her.

The campaign has jumped forward in time. In the first illustration of her she is 21, she is 30 in the one with Fjorde and their baby and in this one she just turned 40.

She looks great and I love the presentation. I imagine this as a character card in a game. Will you be doing the rest of the party in similar fashion?

Thank you Ken. I'm really pleased with the frame. No I don't think so I have some other project that I want to work with. But it is not out of the question eventually. Next step for me is to learn proper perspective.

Thank you Agnes. I'm really happy with it. Although it never ceases to amaze me how many tweaks that goes in to keeping even a simple straightforward composition like this balanced and harmonious.
