Poor dude has / had some pent up emotional issues. I wonder if any of the comics went into that troubled Turtle's psyche and how he wound up that way.

I love the shading and the affects. It really brings the whole thing together and just the angry and agony filled gaze of Raph sends chills down my spine. It gives the impression that someone might have brought harm to one of his brothers or perhaps Splinter or one of his many friends.
So this is very accurate and really brings to light Raph's overprotective and compassionate side. A lot of people think Raph is just a jack ass but what they don't know that on the inside he is actually very compassionate and he bears the weight of the worlds problems on his shoulders and he is loyal maybe to a fault.
Β It's an admirable quality and this pic just shows that Raph is ready to fight and even give up his life for his family and friends. This is what I love about Raph. He is a badass but he is a compassionate badass.Β

I love Raph because I am one of those people who look deeper than just the surface. I actually try relating to the characters. I can relate to him so well because when I was younger I was like a female version of Raph. I used to be really sarcastic, jerkish, cold and basically had major anger issues. But just like Raph I love my family and would do anything to keep them safe even if it meant me putting my life on the line for them.
Raph if you think about it is the most complex and mysterious character of them all. You can never really tell what is going on in his mind, nor does he ever just clearly speak it. His actions show it all for him and that is what makes him a lovable character! This is why he is my all time fave TMNT character and always will be!
Raph has always been my favorite, hands down in any TMNT incarnation, the original, TMNT 2003, TMNT 2012 the TMNT movies....Raph is just awesome! Hands down an excellent member of TMNT!Β

Aight, I promised you critique, here it is!
Let's deal with the positives first - As a whole, I think it's an awesome piece - the pose, the body proportions are great. I especially think you've done well with the hands; hands are damn tough to draw and getting them at the right angle is not easy.
The shading is -really- good, but a bit inconsistent. As far as I can tell, the light source is coming from above and to the left, and most of the shading reflects that, but it feels like it's missing a bit on the face, on Raph's left side. I think his stomach, also his left side, is missing some shading too, but I'm less sure about that part.
The coloring is really good, though, I dunno - you might experiment a bit with the color of the lineart - I see that you've colored it, but it's so dark it almost looks black. I dunno if it's better or worse, but lightening it up a bit might make it blend in more?
Regardless, all round a fantastic job! Have a favorite!
