Description Brain no function to make title... Another attempt of digital painting. Painting something with a photo reference is one thing, but when doing it from imagination there's a whole new set of challenges! I'm still not very good at this, but this is the best one yet. Still rely very much on (shaky) line work, also it just seems a bit... too "smooth" to me. My shading isn't very confident and I need to focus more on hard cast-shadows I see now. I need to learn more about light => form => shade period! Critique is most welcome!

The shading is pretty good right now, but like you said basically need more work. Hopefully you get more time to get the hand of shading.

I like the mood of Leo right now, reminds me how he has bad fights with family or just needs to think.

UK summers are pretty cold too. We just got rain rain rain and more rain! But thats what we're famous for! (after football hooliganism and scones)

Anyway, Leo is beautifully coloured and toned. Beautifully toned in all senses of the word.

I actually think you are very good at it and your lines don't look shaky at all. I think I know what you mean about hard cast shadows though. I'm often fearful they'll ruin the image, even if I do them on a different layer I'm never sure they look 'right'.

Ha, hah! I live in Norway's wettest city, so I know all about summer rain XD And scones are getting popular here too, I just love 'em *drools*

And yeah, doing the harder shades in a separate layer could be an option! I just really like painting everything in one layer, it just naturally blends so well, the blur tool can take a hike! Also, I'm used to traditional stuff, and everything happens in one layer there :-P But I have a lot of experimenting to do, I feel I have to learn a lot from scratch again and also refresh sum old knowledge!

I understand wanting to do everything in one layer, like you I'm more used to traditional stuff. It's still worth doing the scary stuff or stuff you're unsure about on a separate layer though, just incase.

Various people. I DID ask for honest critique after all, so I don't think it's unfair! Off course, I'm not aiming for photo realism (that would just be freaky) but I have to get better with values, "confident" shading, figure out how to do lines when painting (still very much depending on lines of some sort) and textures. Much of what I do end up looking very bland. I need to get better with color and contrast, light => shape => shadows and all that stuff.

Also, since I'm in a blue mood lately it will take me a LOT to be happy with a pic, but that's another thing.

This is really awesome. <3 I always LOVED how you colored. Digitally, and traditionally.
But this, you took it to another level.

The perspective is VERY nice and the atmosphere of the piece is very strong. Like a dramatic scene out of a movie.

The background may seem so simple, but actually brings out the piece even more. Which is very impressive for such a simple background. (You haz magicz. XD)

Don't mind your lineart too much, it's quite nice actually. Better that squiggly and messy.

And amazingly, I REALLY love the rain effect and how you drew the sword. Especially that little "shine" to it.

I give full respect on this. <3 Great job as always. Keep it up

Thank you so much! I just upgraded the pic, I softened the lines and added water on his skin (cause when you're in rain, you get wet *derp*).
