Description Colored sketch commission for Sergeant over at Furaffinity [link] of his OC Marcovaldo. This character doesn't have a shell on his back, more a collection of spikes and plates.

This "sketch" is a tad upgraded since he had to wait extra long for it. Thank you so much for commissioning me!

awesome!
But he's off balance: his standing foot should look front, not to the left (his left)
His torso and his striking leg need to be in one plane. So it's either he leans forward too much or he turned his standing leg.

In this position should he really strike something the impact of the kick will make him fall left (his left)

Nope, I did my research on this one [link] This is karate, but the same basic kick is to be found in many different martial arts. I've also attended jujitsu in the past (many years ago, and just for a little over a year), and this instruction video presents exactly the same information I learned from my teacher there. There is a huuuuge variety of different kicks out there, so in some you would have your supporting foot more forward, but here you have to twist it out from your body to be able to twist your striking foot on the position where you hit your opponent full force with your whole sole.

That certainly isn't Mavashi on the pic. I'd go for Yokogeri, and I know now why: Mavashi doesn't have the "powered" rim of the striking sole because it strikes with the tip of the foot (sorry I don't know an anatomically correct term for that).

I've been doing karate for five years when I was a teen, so trust me, I know the difference between roundhouse and direct kick.

This is but nitpicking of course. Most people wouldn't notice the difference

Ah, like this [link] ! I'm not very familiar with the different names within karate, I just searched for "roundhouse kick" since that is like, a typical Hollywood-type cool looking kick XD But I guess since the guy in that video didn't actually hit a target, but just kicked in the air, I missed that it's actually NOT the sole of the foot that hits the target in this kick, no matter how hard I stared at it.

Yup. Except the guy in the video also twists his standing foot to the side and it's a mistake (also, his breathing falters - how did he even get his black belt?)
They say, if you have to learn, make sure you learn from a master. Check out this: [link] - pause at 0:25 and note that the standing foot looks front.

I just need to ad, after looking at 0:25 I'm very sure you've just misinterpreted the angle of the character. This is not a plain side-view, but more from the front. If he was kicking an enemy now, you would see mostly the enemy's back facing you.

That guy seems to have some serious skills... but when the kick happens he quickly, but very clearly twists his standing foot so the toes points away from his body, heel inwards... I don't know if you are misinterpreting the angle you are seeing the character in my pic from, or what is going on... but I want to end this discussion now, it's about time.
