A few days ago, the heartbreaking news was delivered that Stephen Hillenburg, creator of the beloved Nickelodeon cartoon series SpongeBob SquarePants, passed away after battling ALS for a year and a half. When I found out about the sad news, I was very devastated and shocked, but most of all, heartbroken, because SpongeBob SquarePants was one of the shows from my childhood I grew up with all my life and I continue to watch to this very day. Not only that, but Stephen's creations and himself inspired me to draw, animate, and make my own cartoons and characters, amongst other cartoon inspirations. The world, and the show, will be a poorer place without him, but it was a richer place because he was there.

Farewell, Mr. Hillenburg, and thanks for being such an inspiration to many artists like myself, thanks for creating SpongeBob and all the wonderful characters we know and love, thanks for making the beloved clips that became memes possible, but most of all, thank you for yourself. The work you've blessed this world with will forever remain unforgettable, and I'll miss you a whole lot!
