The team gets captured by Cadmus.
For M'gann and Artemis who get captured by them for the first time, waking up in a pod is very confusing.
For Robin and Kaldur, it's just tiring.
Conner meanwhile, freaks out. Being back in Cadmus was his biggest nightmare come true, and he didn't stop struggling since he woke up.
They were lucky that no one has come for them yet. They were trying to figure out a plan, and that wasn't easy with all the noise Superboy was making.
Before Aqualad could try to quiet him down again , Conner sudennly stopped.
Only then all of them heard a faint sound of approaching footsteps.
Robin made one more attempt to grab his picklocks from the secret compartment in his gloves, but it looked like Cadmus really upped the security of the pods.
Who came through the door was not a scientist though. It was The Flash. Wearing a white suit.
And he seemed just as surprised to see them as they were to see him. For a moment everything was quiet.
Until Conner spoke.
'Kid Flash?' He asked belivered.
Kid Flash's face filled with anger.
He whisper-shouted at the clone
'Supey?! What the hell were you thinking?! Do you know how much trouble I went through to help genomorphs set that fire to free you last time? Oh my f*cking God. Do you really wish to stay here?! Why do you throw your life away like that?! I swear to God, I'm sooo going to whoop your ass' He kept mumbling as he freed the dumbfound team.
Kid Flash led them from the pod room, and away from the guard routes. Straight towards the hangar.
The team didn't trust him at all, while Superboy seemed to trust him a little too much.
Before leaving the pod room Kid Flash hastily explained how him and Superboy know each other.
Aparently, he has been here for 3 years, and during more recent months he has been linked mentally with Superboy-
'It's Conner. I have a real name now.'
'I couldn't be more happy for you Con.'
- and genomorphs fed them both information about Earth and culture.
Superboy admits that he wasn't sure if Kid Flash was real, and not just some mental image that Cadmus made for him to teach him teamwork.
When they get to the entrance, Kid Flash stops, opens the door, and bids them goodbye.
'Why don't you go with us?' Superboy asks a little desperately.
'Because I can't'
'Look, whatever Cadmus promsied you it's not worth it. Just come with us-' Artemis starts.
'No. You don't get it. I literally can't. I have a bomb and a tracking device in the back of my neck. Also you guys have like 30 seconds to go, before they notice you're gone.'
And here comes the amazing power of teamwork, where Robin deactivates the tracking device, while M'gann performes the quickest round of little doctor you would even imagine and taking the bomb out of Kid Flash's neck with her bare fingers (formed as tweezers). There is no time to sew the cut shut, since the alarms start going off around that time.
The team still can't believe how much luck they had to get out of there without a fight.
They get back to the cave, and Batman sews Kid Flash's cut.
'Mask stays on, you may take a blood sample-yep, you already took ten probably, and I want a mirror to see what are you doing when my back is turned.'
Artemis starts calling him Kid Paranoid, and then Flash arrives. Real Flash.
And Kid Flash won't look him in the eye. Come to think of it, he didn't look anyone in the eye.
But now he stopped moving too.
Flash brings up a question, that everyone else has been asking themselves.
'Who exactly are you?'
Corners of Kid Flash's mouth turn even lower.
'3 years ago, Barry Allen and Iris West had a child.' He starts quietly, and everyone sees Flash's entire body tense up.
'Wha-' No one ever heard Flash this angry and heartbroken.
'It was a stillborn' Kid Flash continues and his voice seemes strained.
At that moment, Flash is ready to start yelling at the kid. What did he want to accomplish by tormenting him.
'And the body was supposed to be burried at Central City Cementry...But it wasn't' that made Flash pause.
'The doctor who performed postmortem examination noticed something strange in the child's body.'
What.
'It appeared that the child's DNA contained a wierd gene. Later it turned out, it was superspeed.
The body was taken by Cadmus, where the experiments began.
They cloned the boy. And had him grow in the pod, until his physical apearence showed him to be around 15 years old. The project was abandoned then, and every scientist who had worked on it and known about Barry Allen and Iris West has been eliminated. Kid Flash became a failed experiment, and the clone was left in the possession of Cadmus labs, seeing as there were no means to get rid of him at the moment.'
Barry slips into relative time by the end of the speech. He doesn't know how much time passed for him. From the clock on the wall he only knows it was whole 5 seconds for normal humans. He had a lot of time, to think about everything that was said. People say that the Flashes are always calm and roll with everything. No. they just have a lot more time to think about things and cope with them.
'Take off your mask.' Barry's request is like a whisper, but Kid Flash hears it anyway. Everyone is deadly quiet.
'The face you will see belongs to your dead son. A son that I am not.' he says brokenly.
'I am a clone of a dead child and I will never be a real human being.' The words leave a bitter taste on his tongue. Those are the words he heard everyday during his 3 year old life. Those were words that he was taught to believe in.
Flash walks over and carefully removes the mask.
Time seems to stop again. This time, Barry is smiling and trying not to let the tears fall even as he knows it's a loosing battle.
'You have Iris's e-eyes. And hair. A-and freckles.' he chokes on his words. 'Y-you also have my nose. And chin. A-and you have the Allen's family ears.' Tears are falling freely now, and Kid Fl-no, his son's eyes are not dry either.
'Wally' the boys seems to go still when he hears the name.
Barry pulls him into a hug and he doesn't hug back. He doesn't know how.
'After all this time. You're back with us. My son.' Barry is laughing, the emptiness in his heart that has been there since Januray 16th three years ago seems to fill out a little bit. He feels as Wally gently, carefully rests his forehead od Barry's chest.
There is a long way ahead of them. They also need to tell Iris. But everything will be worth it in the end.
