It begins, Season 5, and the art!I'm doing my Episode Art streams again, just like I did during Season 4, with every episode an artwork made.

Really awesome start to the season I say. Different, but pulled of by all the folks who worked on it. It's something I've come to expect from them. Exploring new ways and things while still making it all work!
Very much enjoyed the episodes. So many new things, so many possibilities shown. In all regards, from visuals, sound, animation, story, lore, etc. Really excited for more!
Since it was a two parter, there was quite a bit to choose from, quite a bit of nice things to choose from. I went with Starbright, though.
One thing... darn magic colour is almost same as background haha, that wasn't exactly the easiest part. Also... all.. those... cutiemarks...
I may be tempted to tackle some more from these episodes, if I can find the time. Since it's a two parter.
Anyhow, hope y'all enjoyed the episode and enjoy this little bit of art.
I'll be doing this every Weekend when I can.
Unfortunately next week's stream will be delayed to Monday/Tuesday because I'll be at Brony-Fair. But other than Bronycon and Brony-Fair, I don't expect any interruptions.

the sinister grin the evil eyes, the shadeing the lighting the contrast! it is super amazing! This Dramtik pik realy shows us a deep portrayal of this charecter. That face screams compinitent and konfidant! The cunning trapper who has causght the prey.you realy made her look good in 3d and her enviroment and back ground praktily reflekt her soul. This makes her look so Bad ass, hard core, Dramatic, konduktive this Lightning!
Infakt she praktikly looks elektrik.

This is another awesome art of yours AssasinMonkey. I am a fan of Starlight Glimmer myself and I've seen many Starlight Glimmer deviations but never saw anything like this! The scene/background awesomely cool! The way you made everything not focused on the background but focusing on Starlight nice touch nice. Looks like Starlight is concentrating on to make ponies cutiemarkless and is ready to action to whoever comes to equal is equal! When I look closely into Starlight's eyes you could see a aqua green shine like she has the powersame as strong as the princesses of Ponyville, Cantorlot, and the Crystal Empire. Her is the most beautiful part of Starlight Glimmer and you've made it so a prepossessing. An amazing piece paying tribute to an amazing two-part episode. A perfect way to start the season, and the perfect way to commemorate it. The lighting is superb - the ghostly glow of magic combined with the light of the Cutie Mark Vault illuminates both Starlight's face, hair and eyes superbly, but reflect off the rock walls of the surrounding cave with stunning realism. The smirk on Starlight's face conveys a perfectly smug, just-evil-enough attitude, accented perfectly by the glow in her eyes - an amazing addition to a wonderful piece.
A minor issue is Starlight's eye color. In the episode and in various screenshots, her irises are shown as a violet/light purple, whereas here they are seen as more of a dark blue. Another, less-minor criticism would be the lack of detail on the "Staff of Sameness", or so it's dubbed by Glimmer herself. Although it is clear that the Staff is not the focal point of this piece, the fact that it remains so close to our point of view demands some more attention - perhaps some knots or lines in the wood.
Despite these issues, however, this is a wonderful piece, and I can't wait to see more from you as the season goes on!

I've always loved how you draw perspectives! I have seen this scene drawn out quite a few times by now (all of them in different styles compared to one another) but yours stands out in the sense of having Starlight's face in focus while everything else is slightly blurred out. It's like we're there staring at her face to face. I also really appreciate the small detail you drew on Starlight's face and ear. The eyes, shading and lighting are the two things that make this piece stand out more to me. My eye was drawn to her face first.
As for a possible improvement, the mane (specifically her bangs since they're in focus with her face) I feel as though you could've put more hair like detail. The face and and eyes are so beautifully drawn and detailed, so the bangs just lack a bit in comparison.
Overall though, I value your attention to detail. You have gotten really good with shading and making the lines of your characters very clean. You're also great at capturing the essence of an intense scene which gives me the same excitement I got from watching the episode.

Damn, this is impressive, I would attempt to critique it, but I really aren't good enough with art two even bother.The colours in this are very impressive, as is the amount of detail that Starlight was given. Her expression seems tor really match with what was seen on the show. The background does seem to be a bit overly blurry though.

Wow, that is stunning. I love how Starlight and the staff stand out against the background. You have a great ability to create the illusion of depth in your drawings, as shown by the staff that really seems to be in front of her. I love it!

The premiere was pretty awesome, wasn't it? The villain wasn't some ancient demi-god for once and actually got away. What's more, side characters finally got their chance to shine and be useful. Heck, even stallions got to do something! That's what I call breaking the mold and a refreshing change of pace.

Starlight Glimmer is an interesting choice for a villain, a nice change from what we've had so far. Though I didn't quite understand her motivations. Making herself superior? Simply harvesting talents for herself? Or genuinely wanting everyone to be equal?

I know right! She didn't even look like a villain compared to past mlp villains like Tirek, and Nightmare Moon. Her intentions weren't really evident in the episodes besides wanting everyone to be equal. All in all, I thought it was a great kick-off to the new season.Β

I just found out that Starlight Glimmer's voice is done by Kelly Sheridan, the one that voiced most of the barbie protagonists, and Rebecca Shoichet(the voice of Sunset Shimmer, and singing voice of Twilight) is the voice of Sugar Belle and Night Glider!

I think it's refreshing to see a "normal" vilain (well at least the design is) she's not like NM, Discord, QC or even Tirek but dude she's so mean I like it !
