wow. that is great! i do feel the coldness of the image. the colours work well together to create that mood. and man the skill used to do that painting is GREAT.

Hey, well, I'm just speechless with all this great commenting on this painting. So here goes, her name is Florence, she's french, and I took the photograph I based this painting on. Part of the concept of the painting is to make evident the whole process of making the painting, so you can see the white gesso preparation on the canvas, then the red acrylic as my back color. On top of that is the grid in chalk, which I used to transfer in drawing the face from photograph to the canvas. After that it was just painting in black and white with a little bit of blue mixed in the most interesting parts. On the top would be what is commonly refered to "finished painting" only you can see past that to the canvas at the bottom. It's the impression of certaing parts of the face that are totaly painted, and the rest fades and blurs away. I enjoy doing a totaly finished piece, but this is much more emotional and expressive, and it was finished really fast too. Thank you all for your great comments.

What a great idea - the background was all red and then you painted in what you wanted to stick out and left the rest alone?

i feel kinda wierd favoriting a daily deviation, but it would be dumb of me not to fav it for that reason. This is my favorite piece out of the your gallery so far. Really great. Did you paint the red first and then the face over it or was it the face then the red? Again, this is really nice.

I love this. The whole concept of it is very neat. I like what you did. I'm not sure that I like the grid lines.. they seem... awkward in such a perfect portrait. However, they add an interesting element.. maybe just without the numbers. The eyes are my favorite. I love how you colored them. An amazing look to this whole piece.

as far as ADVANCED critique goes, image is never enough (I'd have to be stood in fron t of it to see how the texture of application adds to the atmos')

its really good and really strong but its kinda wierd you look like a bloody mell brooks.
but i like it. in the future i would more carefull with the red its a very very strong color, but if thats what you wantted i think that overall its a good piece.
