It surprised me when I realized the background was actually real newspaper. I thought it was edited in. Didn't know that you could do that. Anyway, I like how you colored it.

This looks seriously awesome. Not only is the technique very rich (love that texture that shows up in palces), but the face is so well done, with correct perspective and the very expressive eye. I love

Hey Thanks!
Checked out your site too. You have some nice and experimental work which is always exciting to see. I think it is interesting for someone who lives within such a rich source of historical art, you show us your own unique perspective.
I am planning my first trip there in the spring. Anything I should see while I am there without being too touristy?

Oh, thank you so much for your kind comments! I'm glad you like my work, it is very important to me
Since you are planning to visit in spring, I'll think about your question a bit, so I that I can give you a good answer. Do you know how many days you are going to stay? Are you going to stay in Athens only, or will you visit some other part of greece as well?

this is so great. somehow it doesn't have a collage-ish feel, which is good. the newspaper text seems to fit into the whole composition instead of sticking out like a glued-on scramble. teh colours are so warm + gorgeous, too.

Inter-Aurora In reply to redlauren [2004-09-15 01:09:55 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, I think that putting a thin coat of gesso over the paper clippings toned them dpwn so as not to be overpowering.
I appreciate you looking.

wow. this is absolutely gorgeous. the black and white and red works so well, and the text of the newspapers doesn't detract from the features of the face but rather adds so much to the image. you did a wonderful, wonderful job on this. beautiful.

well, i am an admirer of people who show great talent and whose work sticks out from so much of the nondescript sameness on a site like this. your work does stand out. and this is a work showing great talent.

This is instantly the best work I've found on DA up to now. Newspaper collages can be very ugly, but if you know what you are doing, they can become some of the most beautiful images. What I can make out from the text of the articles seems not to be a general good feeling, and the dripping of the hair down the boys face seems to become a trail of a tear. But he doesn't look very sad to me...a bit bored, really. Although, I've been bored to tears before...like when I had a job as a paper delivery boy. It's nicely presented.

Good work

Thank you so much for the grand compliment as well as the fav. Yes I did try to pick topics that I found disturbing to work into the background. Glad you were able to pick up on that. As far as the faceial expression. I was going more for that sigh at the point of confusion brought on by the deluge of crap thrown at us by the media.
I too know that feeling of boredom you speak of, I was a paper delivery girl. ;

This was my Fav out of your gallary, so I thought I'd tell you that.

I like how his hair drips over his fave, and how background is divided. It makes me think of him look up and feeling emtions, or looking down and feeling lost.

its great!! the thumbnail does no justice to the actual piece. You are very talented, the character is so full of life and style. if i were to describe it, id say the style to me looks like a creative mix of edvard munch and egon schiele.

I love it

The wrist modelling looks a little like a crumpled newspaper which is well with the subject matter, also the fact that he doesnt know that he is being Hit on the Head and is actually bleeding from the assualt expresses perfectly how we react to the media today. The fact that apathy has replaced expression of pain is really what you have expressed so well in this painting.

Well done again, much better outcome than I expected. I liked the first posting so much I didnt think you'd be able to modify it to the better. I was wrong.

Great I will Fav it again

Thanks for your response and the Fav. I love that you are able to read so much into this.
You may notice it is a larger format this time ( just in case you wonder), I scanned the first time around and I just got a better camera and was able to shoot it in its entirety.

Hey Thanks,
I was afraid it was going to be too much, but I think it makes more of a statement with the colors of mud and blood. I especially like the drip that runs to and from his eye like a tear.
Glad to see you back. Hope you are all settled in.
