Neotyrannus Montanus

A subadult tyrannosaurus rex plods peacefully along a riverbank. He is the top predator, nothing could ever take down such a majestic, powerful beast. His name states it all, he truly is the tyrant lizard ki- *slash*

An immense colourful shape erupts from the undergrowth, the sound of tearing flesh and crushed bone fills the valley. The young king lay dying on the grass, a huge, tridactyl foot digs deep into his ribcage as a sharp, triangular head tears into the helpless youngster's chest, ripping out chunks of meat and bone. A bright-blue flashy tail sweeps across the ground, this monster is a male, in his prime.

It is an alvarezsaur.

This creature is the largest land predator ever, drastically different from its small, Mongolian relatives. It is a huge, 10 ton, force of pure death. With huge, single foreclaws and three long, serrated talons it can take down even the largest of prey. The primary diet of the newly named neotyrannus montanus was large carnivores, it literally devoured the competition. Neotyrannus lived in the famous Hell Creek formation, alongside such creatures as T. Rex and Triceratops; it was the apex predator of its environment.

It is thought (from the slight feather indentations on the fossil) that the specimen discovered was a male. Unusually, the fossil found was rather large, and within the maniraptorian clade in which they reside females are generally larger than males, meaning the full size of neotyrannus could have been up from 11 tons! Sadly, this recently discovered creature is terribly underrated, and not depicted enough in modern palaeoart.
