A thought crossed my mind the other day. Gryphons are meant to be four legged bird creatures right? Birds are the descendants of a clade of theropod dinosaurs. So I just whipped up some hexapedal "theropod" gryphon ancestors.From top left to bottom right:
Tyrannosaurus Rex
Yi qi
Dakotaraptor
Herrerasaurus
A generic sauropod.
A generic ceratopsian.

I'd contemplated monotremes, but hard beaks would be hard for them to evolve.
