Description Hatshepsut “Foremost of Noble Ladies”(1508-1458 BC), fifth pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty, New Kingdom. Ma'at-ka-Re Hatshepsut, the daughter of Tuthmosis I and Ahmes (sister of Amenophis I), is generally believed to have ruled Egypt as pharaoh for approximately 22 years.

She asserted her claim to be the sovereign rather than the “King's Great Wife” or queen consort and was unique because she wore several of the typically “male” adornments, including the false beard, male clothing and had herself depicted as a pharaoh.

Upon the death of her father, Hatshepsut claimed her birthright as it was proclaimed in the Oracle of Amun and had these declarations by the God Amun carved on her monuments: “Welcome my sweet daughter, my favorite, the King of Upper and Lower Egypt, Maatkare, Hatshepsut. Thou art the Pharaoh, taking possession of the Two Lands.”

During Hatshepsuts reign, she commissioned hundreds of building projects throughout Upper and Lower Egypt, including her mortuary temple at Deir el Bahri. It is written that one of her trade caravans returned by boat on the Nile with 31 live myrrh trees from the Land of Punt. These were placed around her funerary temple.

I have always greatly admired Hatshepsut...her strength...her beauty...her tenacity...and her conviction.

I would like to thank Alicia Charles for the use of her photography [link] She made a stunning Hatshepsut

She was a great pharaoh, and you rocked her beauty and strength. I remember watching a documentary about her years ago.

It's a beautiful piece but I hate to say it - she probably looked nothing like that.  She was five foot four, *very* fat, bad teeth, and was probably a bit darker skinned than that.  But I like the spirit of the piece.

This is absolutely beautiful. Her nemes headdress looks a little weird, but this is just incredible. OAO Not all nemes headdresses have the uraeus, though.

Thank you You know, now that I look at it, I guess I should go back and add the uraeus and Nekhbet. I had fun painting that one I'm really glad you like it Seems to be everyone's favorite out of my gallery. If I could figure out exactly what I did on this one that everyone likes so much...I'd do it again

You're welcome. C: You don't have to add to it, though. It's absolutely beautiful the way it is.
Well, you have a beautiful gallery~ I'm sure more people will look at it~ You get more views and what not from drawing/writing on popular subjects, and I have a feeling ancient Egypt is one of them. XD I know I personally love anything in regards to the civilization.

Thank you for the kind words! I'm wanting to do some more Egyptian queens and princesses. Any suggestions??? I want to stay away from Nefertiti and do something different.
I admire Hatshepsut greatly! She was truly revolutionary for her time.

WOW! I'm really love this honor, since I am obsessed by the great egyptian ladies. I have a very good book about them, with a brief history of a large part of egyptian women, whether queens or just ordinary people who somehow stood out in his time. They really were wonderful!

Wonderful work, I wonder why you chose not to include the Uraeus on the Khat headdress.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Annezon In reply to Original69Sin [2011-08-22 23:46:23 +0000 UTC]

Well..I drew the headdress without any reference really and I'm all over the portrait painting...but when I get to things like the uraeus or, especially the background...sometimes I lose patience I was so happy to have it almost done that I guess I skipped over it
You are very knowledgeable about Ancient Egypt!
I have a painting of Buto that I want to do...if I ever get around to it

Original69Sin In reply to Annezon [2011-08-23 04:41:04 +0000 UTC]

I'd love to see what you do for Buto, drawing Cobra's is hard enough I would imagine, but how would one make it appear to be a Goddess, hmmmm, yes I would definitely love to see what you come up with. Isis is my own personal weakness.

Annezon In reply to Original69Sin [2011-08-23 15:36:52 +0000 UTC]

It's difficult to "meld" the bodies. Will be interesting to see how it turns out Drawing animals is not easy for me

Beautiful Aset! I too admit to having a weakness for Her. I have always been drawn to the Egyptian deities and only recently "discovered" the Celtic pantheon. I have two I'sisters on FB and we discuss Her at great length sometimes

I'll keep you posted on the progress of Buto We'll see how She turns out

Wow, some of these paintings are truly stunning. I really love this one. How long did this one take you and did you do it all in photoshop?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Annezon In reply to eosvector [2011-07-23 15:37:37 +0000 UTC]

You know...I think that's the first time anyone has asked me how long it took me to do a painting! I'VE ARRIVED!!!!
Well...I love, love, love painting people so once I start, I get addicted. I really couldn't say. If I were to go non-stop without work, laundry, housework(YUCK) I would say probably a day...maybe a day and a half. The background was the worst part. I hate doing the backgrounds.
It's all photoshop. I used to work with acrylics, but photoshop and the tablet are a lot more fun
