An elk design I came up with.

I've been working on crafting smallish sculptures of wild animals. After the success of my moose, I decided to make up some other items using similar design.

This elk sculpture is roughly 9in long and 8in tall at the antlers. Crafted from 18 gauge steel, with the base made from much thicker sheet metal. The jumbled rocks are just thick scrap metal I cut into chunks and arranged on the base. I used a Copper Rust Patina for the color, buffing the patina off along the haunches and belly to lighten the color. I then sealed it with a satin clear coat to protect the color and give it a nice shine.

Sculpture took me about 6hrs to craft, surprisingly, given how small it is and seemingly simple the design. But, it turned out great, and is a really nice item to have in your home or office.
