Description The young mermaid catches a glimpse of something in the water. Then quickly swims through the waters as she discovers the helpless body sinking to his death. Hoping the worst has not come, her arms grab him and they both fly through the deep waters and up to surface as fast as her fins can move.
"Please be alive," she cries out.

As I was drawing this, I couldn't help but think about the Little Mermaid. Again, the Photoshop coloring took far longer than actually inking the picture. Still working on breaking that habit, but I hope you feel it paid off...

Thank you! She's definitely sweet for rescuing a random man from drowning. But I'll take your sweet definition too.

So beautiful!
I love your style The neat ink lines are so pretty! And the colours are just perfect, they really give it this 'underwater' feeling! I also like how you gave the mermaid an original touch, not just the legs fishy and the rest completely human. I like her finny ears and her scales!
According to me, she's a much better little mermaid than the Little Mermaid herself... ^^

Yay! All those things were exactly what I was hoping for.
Better than The Little Mermaid? You flatter me. The Little Mermaid's actually one of my favorite (though not my top five)Disney movies, so hearing that means a lot. ^_^

Yay! The inspiration actually came from a mermaid/angel/fairy watercolor book. Maybe someday I'll work up my skills and do something similar with watercolors.

Thank you. Making this picture taught me a couple things about how things look underwater, such as the color of hair and the shading of the bubbles.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lmih In reply to angelvi [2013-01-05 13:37:34 +0000 UTC]

Bubbles are really fun to shade, well... I think so xD
Soap bubbles are an interesting thing to try too, since they've got so many colours on them!

angelvi In reply to Lmih [2013-01-07 00:26:41 +0000 UTC]

I love soap bubbles. In fact, I almost drew them as if they were so, but despite how pretty they can look, I needed to challenge myself with the underwater bubble look.

Lmih In reply to angelvi [2013-01-07 12:47:43 +0000 UTC]

Haha yes i see, they wouuld have been out of place in this situation, but you managed the underwater bubbles pretty well too
