~Count 2 seconds and it will reach your ears... BOOM!Lightning storm over Novokuznetsk, Siberia.
View from the balcony, where I spend my youth years... and which I also set on fire once.
Brings back memories of many thunderstorms witnessed from this point of view, hitting that building... most likely since it's the tallest building in the area and with plentiful lightning conductors. My grandmother told me a tale that her grandmother told her, of a time when where wasn't as much metal on the ground of the earth and during thunder storms, lightnings shot from one cloud to another, not into buildings.
How to capture lightning with a camera:
a) Wait for a lightning storm
b) point camera at random view of clouds, where you predict lightning might strike
c)Click to photograph and leave aperture open for over 30 seconds on BULB mode.
d)After lightning strikes, click again to close the aperture.
Note: this clearly won't work with cameras that have no BULB mode.

Once when I was fresh with photography I always wondered how on earth these pics can be done. I thought it might be camera connected to pc with some kind of light sensor that takes a photo when the lightening strikes.

Wow, nice timing! You are also a nice photographer. Photographing lightning is hard - I haven't managed taking a good lightning shot yet (and the fact that there are maybe about 5 thunderstorms a year here doesn't really contribute to my attempts

I'm doing time exposure on my photography class at the moment. It's a shame we rarely have lightning storms here, this would be an interesting thing to try. But instead I'm limited to a glowing fountain.

As far as I know its not kirova street, its Kutuzova str. (by coincidence I first thought its kirova too, where my grandma lives) Im from Metallurgov, but now im in SPb(for some years already)

I think you should add in, BULB only stays open as long as you have your finger on the shutter release, unless you use a remote.
Unless your Rebel has some ingenius technology making the use for a remote unecessary!
