Description What was once a pic for the hulking GM Futurliner van of the '30s turned into another retro-tastic group pic of a crazy ol' Worlds Fair! Why? Because I wanted to!

I had a good deal of fun interpreting a number of these crazies, so I hope you have just as much fun trying to see who you know!

With cameo appearances from the casts of the following artists (in no particular order): And Jim Henson (DRINK WILKINS)!

The above cameos belong to their respective creators. The GM Futurliner belongs to the General Motors Corporation. The rest of the characters and the artwork belong to me.

Comments and suggestions welcome. Enjoy!

I do love the retro style take on people's characters, so this was just a natural extension of that! Thanks!

It wasa certainly inspired by those kinds of classics, so I had plenty of fun with turing everyone into 30s cartoons! Thanks a lot for the kind words too!

I'm not sure what you're doing differently, but your line art and colouring here look incredibly clean and smooth. So whatever it is, keep it up by all means! Aside from that, I love the old-timey cartoon style used here. You pull it off incredibly well. I also love the carnival theme going on. xD Excellent composition!

Thanks a lot! I've been scanning just the sketchwork and then adding the lines in an enlarged form of the pic as opposed to working on the scanned inkwork. It's helped with making my lines much bolder, so I'm glad it's being noticed. Nonetheless, I'm happy you liked this one!

Not a problem, I actually was originally going to have that character be the generic hippo you see in this era of cartoons, but I thought to myself "heeeyyy, this could be a good opportunity for a crazy-looking Paunch! " And there you have it, glad you could enjoy. Thanks for the comment, Ban!

Well wow, this certainly is an unexpected surprise. And a retro one too, I do like the idea of it being such a throwback in style like that. Thanks also for including my character, I was pleasantly surprised!

here is the music for it [link]

I really wish cartoons would do this again, I liked how every object became alive and started dancing. The only thing I disliked, were the racist sterotypes.

Now I'll be thinking about the time Kermit sang Happy Feet on the Muppet Show!

Indeed, it's always fun to revisit such a bygone era like this. Aside from the what you mentioned and the occasion overly sappy nature of these kind of toons, I love em too.

Thanks a lot for the kind words!

I heard of this song on some advert. There is a film called Happy Feet.

maybe try other era, 50's era at a greaser cafe, the late 60/early 70's style when they dress as hippies and have psychedelic colours and the 80's, John (Chris's character) will find this a nightmare as of rubix cubes and playing in an arcade. Or yet a futuristic version. I like try alphabet characters but can't find the certain letter, maybe have to use the letter they have in the name instead.

your welcome

Those sound like funny ideas, I'll be sure to keep em on standby if I try to do another of these.

LaptopGeek92 In reply to AgentC-24 [2012-05-03 20:23:48 +0000 UTC]

I'm not forcing you to do this, but I like to have Candy and Floss added in the 50's and 60's/70's because I can imagine them in that era. Or yet Futuristic, my idea would be how the 80's imagined it. Could even do countries, maybe as the Olympics are coming, do them doing sort of sports like Pierre on De Tour France.

AgentC-24 In reply to LaptopGeek92 [2012-05-04 02:19:23 +0000 UTC]

I can see Candy & Floss sitting in a row with Rosey sipping on milkshakes in a 50/early 60s diner scene (they could be new additions to Rosey's beehive army ). I could think about trying that sometime in the future. Thanks for the idea.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LaptopGeek92 In reply to AgentC-24 [2012-05-05 20:40:39 +0000 UTC]

these will suit them. They may like the beehive and it would suit them but I imagine the main bit to be curly and what colour is it, based on the curls, the fringe is the colour of their natural hair. If you get round, Pierre and Andre would be suited because it has pies. Zoe can have a motorbike.

I used to have a ball when our town held a carnival at our schoolgrounds too! Those were the days, and I definitely wanted to capture some of that in addition to the inherent cheesiness of those old "futuristic" worlds fairs!

Thanks for the comment!

So many faces, so much fun. I wish I could climb into this picture and hang out with these characters. Am I to assume that Pierre and Andre perform in the tent with the pies on it?

Oh wow, this IS retro!!!
I love the old-school thirties' look of it, this is very amusing. You've really got thte hang of it. Cute, snazzy...
I've also noticed you do a lot of crowd pics lately. You're getting really good at it
I didn't notice Horseradish in there, she's so small it was like Where's Waldo I found it funny.
They all look great, what a fun experiement

Lyon is in charge of the emergency services. XD Well, you gonna need that. People in a fair can get out of control!
I think J-Les would be calling that a little later.

Lyon is so adowwable in retro style!

Indeed, I always amazed by those hulking leviathans and wanted to accentuate the cheesy fun of those world fairs that the Futurliners would be a part of. Thanks a lot for the kind words!

AstroCat has poked old Windsor in the EYE! I just noticed that. Windy's the only one who didn;t really need to be alterd to fit in with the style-e-e-e-e. I also like his 'retied colonel cat' moustache Mmmyaahhssmmm. Another fine big picct RF! What's the scale of this again, for the paper measurement nerd in me?

AgentC-24 In reply to Granitoons [2012-04-21 21:59:15 +0000 UTC]

I actually didn't intend that one, but I see what you mean! I wanted to accentuate the "strongman" look, and since it'd look crazy if he was bald, I went with accentuating the mustache! Thanks a lot for the comment and support, AM!

And it's A5 if I remember your sizing lesson correctly!

Oh, this is superb! Love the whole retro 1930's vibe to this as well as the fairground setting, and your Kickline lasses certainly take centre stage in style here, with those outfits and quite the motor, too - never heard of the GM Futurliner before, but it looks like quite a beast of a van!
Well done on all the cameos as well, and of course cheers for the Flyer shoutout!

Whoa. The retro style caught my eye right away. This is quite a piece. Fun spotting all the different characters in here, too. Great job on this. The girls look adorable in 1930s style. You should draw them like this with Betty Boop. Would that tent with the pies and French flag be for Pierre and Andre? lol...
