Description Here's an entry for IrishBecky 's Flower Power Spring Art Jam: a tribute to good ol' Roger Miller and one of his more solemn country tunes.

Heh heh... Not the 'grooviest' of cartoons, I'll admit, but the song was originally released in 1965 and definitely has that sixties feel to it.

Art Jam and logo belong to     Look both ways before you sing a song across the railroad tracks!!

Do you think you can Roscoe sing "The Wreck of Old 97" in front of the Southern 1102.

This was the actual engine who pulled train 97 and wrecked in September 1903.

Wow, that's one sharp-looking locomotive.

Hmm... Would you be interested in a commissioned piece?

Well I don't have a paypal account. But how much do you charge? (Also I'm open for requests)

And, she is a sharp lookin' locomotive. Built in 1903 by Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia, that locomotive was involved in the famous wreck of September 1903 (she was only a few months old at the time). 14 people (including her crew) died in the wreck. The engine was later rebuilt and continued serving the Southern Railroad until it retired in 1935 and it was cut up for scrap.

I typically charge depending on the drawing - do you use DA points?

What are DA points?

They're a form of currency used here on DA. If you don't have any, that's fine - never mind, then.

How does one know if you have DA points?

If you go into the "shop" list, it should show where to get points and your balance if you have one.

I think that's an Electro Motive Division F7A diesel locomotive tight there. Or maybe it could be an E series.

Pretty much! I based it off of an EMD FL9.

Cool! The FL9s were built from 1956 - 1960. Many of them were replaced in the late 90's early 2000s, with a few having a working life of 50 years. The last FL9 to see passenger service was in late 2009 before it was cut up for scrap. A few FL9s are preserved today.

I can tell this is such a cheerful song. Terrific rendition of the titular engine with the front-end perspective, and Beedle looks appropiately dapper and despondent.

Heh heh, you know it... Best dang description of Beedle I'll probably hear!

Oh my gosh, I LOVE Roger Miller! He had some great songs! One night, one of my bosses at Michael's was driving me home, and we were singing to one if his songs in the car. My Grandparents are really into him too.
Anyway, this is an awesome and funny tribute to him! Thanks a lot for your entry!

That makes two of us! I've been a Roger fan for some time now - never get sick of his silly ol' country tunes. A friend I knew from college used to love listening to one of his songs with me while driving to and from town.

Not a problem, happy to participate!

I think Roger Miller would apprciate any cartoons you do based off of his songs. Your "art" has a similar style it's just in a different medium. XD

I sure hope so. I do read well into that certain level of goofiness, don't I?
