Description Here is a little sneak peek what kind of picture I am currently working on. This will be my interpretation of FadedLightening ’s description in my Three Dagon Pictures project.

I apologize of the horrible quality of this picture. I am not at home at the moment so I don’t have scanner or any proper editing programs available. The picture is taken with iPad and edited with Word. Yes, you heard right, MS Word is handy in many way, you can adjust contrast and even colors with it.

I am on winter holiday at the moment (wheeeeeeee) so hopefully I get at least this picture finished during my holidays. Inking today!

MS Word has more editing options than paint... funny how that is.

Yeah, it is amazing how much you can do with it nowadays!

So many details O_O
I don't know wher to look at!
I love it how you draw gras and feathers. It always looks so smooth and fluffy.
The characters and poses are also very well done.
And i like the mushrooms in the left corner xD
I just love everything in this piece and can't wait for the coloration :3

Thank you very much!
The sketch really is quite messy and doesn't have proper focus points but I hope the colored version is easier to perceive.
I am glad to hear that you like the poses, it took me a while to figure those out. Lots of erasing happened before this sketch was ready!

Your sketches are much cleaner than my xD
But i like it if sketches are a lill bit 'messy'.
They give a more traditional feeling this way

I believe you that you had to erase a lot to show us such an beautiful result, relly.
I like everything and i should finally comment on the colored version XD

Yeah, messiness is a part of the charm of traditional art!

Actually I don't erase much when sketching. Only if pose is totally wrong I might erase it and start over (for example here when I tried to figure out which critters I would add, I had to erase them few times before I was happy) but mostly I try to use really light strokes so that I can just draw over them if they're in wrong places. When I am happy I make the important lines stronger to see which lines to ink.
Eraser have bad habit to mess up, crumple or otherwise damage paper so I try to avoid using it until I have inked the sketch. Then I erase the whole sketch away at once. Of course I would get rid of the problem of  messy eraser if I started to use light table and drew the final lineart on a different paper than a sketch...

Right, but light tables are expensive at least here in Germany xD
But i work the same way.
At first i draw very light basics of the body shape and sometimes muscles as well.
Then i draw the final Sketch, darker than the basics  but still light.
I add all the details with the coloration
So i don't have to mess around with them while drawing the Sketch xD

Amazing details! How much time did it takes?

Agaave In reply to WingedAyalis [2014-03-04 05:28:38 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!
I am bad at estimating how much time my drawings take because I usually draw little, then do something else and then continue again... but if I think with all the planning and erasing it takes something between 3 - 5 hours to get a sketch like this ready.

I am glad to hear that you like! I was trying to draw different kind of forest animals she could take care of but puppies seemed most fitting.

They look like fox or wolf cubs to me, more so fox though.

Agaave In reply to FadedLightning [2014-03-04 05:25:33 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I was actually referencing my own Corgi (he has such huge ears!) when I drew the puppies so they have more fox like look than wolf.
