Oh wow I didn't see that one earlier
I am pretty sure I didn't base it on any official ship, so I guess that the similarity comes from the artist basing it off of my image. I'm not surprised

Normally I'd agree with you, but theirs is so close to yours that it honestly borders on plagiarism. Not to mention yours predates theirs by about 4 years

Awesome job with the scout Adam! It makes so much more sense than that horrible picture West End Games made for their Lone Scout A ship. Which later became that miniature for X-wing battles...

I would love to use this in my weekly SWRPG game, if you don't mind me using it. I was also wondering if there was a way I could pay for a copy of the 3D rendering model for this ship? My friend loves making us deckplans for ships and he is moving on to 3D now from 2D. Please contact me if you are willing to do it, even consider it a commission?

Beautiful.Β I'm surprised it has no gun turrets to protect its flanks and its rear, though. Does it have retractable turrets? Or is there no room for turrets, the ship's interior occupied by fuel tanks (or their 'Star Wars' equivalent) and/or the sensors and electronic equipment a scout ship needs to perform its duty?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AdamKop In reply to ArmamentDawg [2013-10-21 06:22:51 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I actually had planned a turret for the rear (rotatable), but I decided to have it retractable, as the scout ship would just have to run if trouble appeared.Β

It is like a Tie-Fighter variant, mixed with Darth Maul's Interceptor. Also love the sense of speed the image invokes.

Not bad, I like how it clearly comes from the same design stable as the TIE fighter but it's still a completely different design.

AdamKop In reply to Kasterborous [2013-10-05 19:48:48 +0000 UTC]

Thanks I was focusing mostly on getting the typical TIE features over and incorporating them into somethig completely different. Luckily it turned out better than the concept drawing, as TIE Fighter's parts are really adaptable due to their simplicity (spehrical cockpit and grilled wings).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kasterborous In reply to AdamKop [2013-10-05 20:51:31 +0000 UTC]

I'd say you succeeded... it looks much more obviously a Sienar Technologies design than, say, the Sith Infiltrator from Episode I. And the cockpit is a nice blend of regular TIE sphere and Millennium Falcon-like tube, very appropriate for a bigger ship that has to seat more than one person up front but that shares technology with the TIE range.

Majestic-MSFC In reply to AdamKop [2013-10-05 00:41:53 +0000 UTC]

Yeah the TIE scout was like an enlarged TIE Advanced, with a crew of 3. It featured in the game Empire at War but I was never a fan of it. This however is a totally different animal and something I can totally get behind. One day when I get back into modelling Star Wars fighters I will certainly give this a shot. Great work and design mate.

Well I kinda liked it, but sometimes the designs were a bit held back by the limits of 3D graphics back then. I have no problems with adding details so I guess it's natural that my stuff will look more beliveable and realistic

Majestic-MSFC In reply to AdamKop [2013-10-06 14:41:44 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, very true. Still I also think you're a much better designer of ships. Seriously I like a lot of your designs over professionally made ones like many of the games that introduce designs that really aren't that great and while they are limited to low poly, even really low poly back in the day, yours are much better overall designs. I know many in the Star Wars Empire at War community are now making versions of your ships for their mods. I found some on ModDB and Gamefront forums just this week.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AdamKop In reply to Majestic-MSFC [2013-10-06 15:07:41 +0000 UTC]

Thanks I really don't consider myself better than most of the designers, as for a lot of them it's just the thing they have to do. It makes me a bit sad though, as with time the true spirit of designing something new and unique just disappears. Now that Star Wars games have been handed over to EA, I'm pretty sure we can forget about cool stuff. I don't imagine anyone at DICE making a completely new Incom fighter or a new walker.Β

I remember stumbling upon a ship or two on the mod forums so I guess there's still a bunch of people that care about designs Even if people won't consider them superior, at least they can appreciate the diversity and some new ships in otherwise stale universe.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Majestic-MSFC In reply to AdamKop [2013-10-07 01:05:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it's a shame they disbanded Lucasarts as it was one of the few gaming companies that still produce quality products, now they are gone I think Bungie are one of the few left.Β

I guess it's up to us modders now to make the games they release worth it. Hell I still mod Star Trek Armada 2 that was released in 2001, so it shows modders can make a pretty crap game worthwhile and with people like you designing awesome ships that we can re-create in low poly form, makes our job much easier.

AdamKop In reply to Majestic-MSFC [2013-10-07 06:20:55 +0000 UTC]

Well, seeing how they managed to kill off Force Unleashed in an underwhelming sequel and what they did with Kinect Star Wars, I think that the company just couldn't do anything good. Of course it was mostly because of the management, who managed to throw away Battlefront 3, 1313 (it was a GTA clone at some point) and Wingman (a WiiU game based on the X-Wing/TIE Β Fighter games that was later merged into BF3).

Anyway, with modders like you everything will be fine Of course I'm looking forward to this one as well :Β www.facebook.com/pages/Star-Wa…

Yeah 1313 looked awesome from the trailer that I saw, and I don't know how long fans have wanted Battlefront 3. Hopefully the companies that get Star Wars do it justice and get some good games out.

Ah yes, I've done a bit of modelling work for that project, the fighters and the Star Destroyer.

AdamKop In reply to Majestic-MSFC [2013-10-07 07:26:40 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I at least hope that they start releasing more varied games and real ones, not some stupid Kinect minigames.Β

I remember that some of your ships were used in one update for the game, I hope more will be added I might also try to convert some of mine to lower poly versions and perhaps make some cockpits, since I already got some designed.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Majestic-MSFC In reply to AdamKop [2013-10-07 07:48:42 +0000 UTC]

Your talents would really benefit the project. I still have several of your fighters in low poly format and a few I still need to do (from the last batch you sent me). I am currently working on my two Trek projects, YY was started in 2007 and TCW a couple of years ago. Both I really need to look into finishing and I am aiming for a late 2013 release for the Earth faction for TCW and a early 2014 for the Feds from YY.Β

When I get sick of Trek I will no doubt head back to them. I enjoyed working on them and need to hardpoint them and send them to my friend Jetfreak. He does the in-game renders for me.Β

Yeah some more varied games would be good for the franchise. I really hope they resurrect 1313, it looked really cool and for once you play as a non-Jedi.

AdamKop In reply to Majestic-MSFC [2013-10-07 07:55:16 +0000 UTC]

Looking forward to your new ships then I don't play trek games, but I always take a good look at new ships.

1313 is a longer story though, as the assets for the game weren't bought by Disney. The game was about Boba in the end though. First mission was set on Tatooine and then you moved to Coruscant with a robot companion (IG88 if I recall correctly). It was a GTA clone and then became Uncharted for E3 presentation. I'm pretty sure that EA will want to make an adventure game on their own though, as Disney will most likely want something to earn back some cash they spent on SW license

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Majestic-MSFC In reply to AdamKop [2013-10-07 16:44:02 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, Star Trek games have a history of being well not good. lol Since Activision lost the licence they have gotten even worse. I find Star Wars games to be much better quality, but then again it's a setting which makes basing games off it much easier.

I am currently doing a 23rd century mod and a 22nd (ENT) century mod. Both are progressing at roughly the same pace. When I get bored of one I jump to the other. Keep me sane and means I am not stuck on something for weeks. I come back to it when I am ready.Β

Lets hope they do, not only for them to regain money but for us to have something new to play. I have Star Wars Kinect but never played it. I have only just moved into a house that is big enough to set up the kinect but been too busy and kinect doesn't really appeal to me.Β

Still Rouge Squadron, Force Unleashed and Knight of the Old Republic remain my favourite Star Wars games.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AdamKop In reply to Majestic-MSFC [2013-10-07 17:57:48 +0000 UTC]

I guess that Star Wars was just appealing more to kids and that made game development more alive. It's difficult to make a game about trek that would appeal to kids - it would have to be mostly action based. The last trek game had that, but was just hilariously bad due to millions of bugs.

If you have your SW Kinect, don't even open it Just sell it while it has some value and get something else. I guess you have all of the bases covered, so I probably don't have any underrated SW for you to get into. Perhaps Ep1 Racer, but you might have already played that. I loved it on N64 and I'm replaying it at the moment on an emulator. Graphics are poor, but speed is just perfect. I was also surprised by the DS version of Force Unleashed - even though PC version looked good, I had more fun on the handheld It was one of the very few action games where touchscreen controls actually helped the game and made it more seamless and intuitive.

Still, Rogue Squadron is the king of all I got all gold medals in every game (ace medals in RS2/3)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Majestic-MSFC In reply to AdamKop [2013-10-08 02:25:47 +0000 UTC]

Yeah the last Trek game was buggy and there were some really hard parts, but all that aside it wasn't too bad, not as bad as many people claim. I own it on the Xbox360. As long as you expect it not to keep up with games like Halo etc you'll probably enjoy it but it won't be something that has that much desired replay value.Β

Yeah I still have my N64 and all the Star Wars games that were released on her along with some other favourites like Zelda OOT, Mario Kart, Goldeneye and Perfect Dark to name only a few. I think I have close to 20 N64 games all up. I won't ever get rid of that machine. I still remember opening it for Christmas 1997, I was only 13. I consider it a classic.

I got the Force Unleashed of the Xbox360 and it was pretty good on that platform too, I have both the normal and Sith Editions and have the Sith Edition through steam. They had a massive sale and I got heaps of Star Wars games and a low price, so I do have triples of games like Empire at War, but got some old classics like Star Wars Starfighter, Dark Forces 2 and so on.Β

I was never able to play Rogue Squadron 2 or 3, I think those were released on the Gamecube which I never had as after the N64 I went to the Xbox. But I did get all the medals on Rogue Squadron 1. The shear amount of hours playing that game in my youth, something you don't see with many games these days, they simply don't have the replay value or are those MMO (pay to win types) where they really aren't worth the money. Like STO, got so many bugs, overally expensive to be competitive and really has about as much in common with the feel and storyline of Trek as Star Wars does. lol

So I am sticking with working on my modding projects, when those are done, I'll just have fun playing with them. .Β
