Description Ive been playing around with the hair modifier in 3ds max 8, so decided to make a nice hillside scene using it as the grass! it doesnt look half bad, though i guess if each blade had a detailed shadow the render time wouldve been out of this world

this one is dedicated to the wonderful worlds of hayao miyazaki's films and the myst series of pc games... each gave a new set of immersive experiences for all to enjoy

detailed stuff...
render time; 6 mins 18 secs (default scanline renderer... hehe)
textures; rock texture taken from the Halo PC game...
shinto shrine maps applied in Sketch Up 5 and imported into max- originally i found these on Turbosquid [link]

hair modifier rules! point-and-click fur simulation, and that crazy comb tool is insane

sure is! ever tried getting realistic shading with hair though? it should be in there somewhere...

haven't really played with it...but there aren't any materials specific for hair/fur...and settings for light/shadow, shading, is all in multiplier and "enviroments"...so i think we can only fake the lighting....it won't react to photons in mental ray or anything i think

nah, tho the definition certainly improved in mental ray- i think i might resubmit it! its probably wise to keep to basic colours on hair/fur, but ive got sum texture maps that mightnt look that bad for grass...
