Description Very rarely does anyone find inspiration for a 3d art piece that's this intriguing, so if you have watched any of the tv series 'Threshold' you'll probably get it instantly! this was from last week's episode here in adelaide (if youre from america, then it was probably from last season!) when the main protagonist dreams of being in a forest of glass in her sleep. creepy! the image was really complete with the sounds of creaking and cracking glass- at present the series isnt getting very far, but hey, at least there was some powerful imagery there!

btw, the rendering time for this was 2:42:49. That's what you get for having such a large resolution monitor! heh. nah, the texture i used for the glass has reflective and refractive detail, so my pc spent about 2.5 hours just trying to calculate that!

i hope you like this one! im off to find an icebucket... its 40 degrees outside... no joke!!

cheers! actually, it was a bit of a toss-up between purple, green or red... so far i think people prefer this one! (thank god)

thanks! it was painful for my computer, that's for sure! i also did versions of it with a green and blue haze, but purple seemed the best colour to match the textures.

Ooooh - thats looks like it could be painful. The purple haze gives it a nice mystical look.

Looks pretty cool.
You were not on a ship?

It reminds me of the show.
I think they cancelled "Threshold", its been a while since it was on.
Too bad I liked it.

to be honest, i havent watched the latest few episodes here... all of these plots about alien conspiracies in nightclubs just seem too passe

Yeah its a bit passe but no one else is doing stuff like this.
"Invasion" is the closest.

what about the x-files? bring back the cigarette-smoking man, i say!
theres also a new series starting here called 'supernatural'... sorta the same thing, except the zombies are ghosts...?

There was a series called "Strange world" on cable that was almost a direct descendant of X files.
Instead of the FBI, it was an Army outfit tasked with keeping an eye on rogue corporations. There was a paper published by a well know head of a software company about the new threats to humanity. In the 50s it was nuclear but now its Biotech, Nanotech and Robotics. Back then the bad stuff was in the hands of govt/military labs and they have security guidelines. Now potentially destructive tech is in the hands of profit hungry companies and thats not good. We know that companies will cut corners to get products to market and or not spend as much time researching side effects. Wish I remembered more details, maybe you can do a google search on "Grey goo" (Nanotech). Anyway, the series is sort of a clone, they even had x files like music. X files had some great piano work.

Supernatural is really a decendant of the Big Daddy, "The Night Stalker". The two brothers do not have official support and they have to sleaze/scheme their way to finding out whats going on. X files did sci fi and supernatural stuff, Supernatural just does supernatural. So far they have good stories. Would like to see them really crank up the weirdness.

They actually had a new version of "The Night Stalker" and some of the stories were pretty good but it seems to not be too popular. Too bad about "Threshold", they definitely had the weirdness factor and a decent cast of chars. Reminds me of the game Xcom, the first one.

By the way, the smoking man was in an episode of Supernatural.
The one titled "Scarecrow".

okey doke, i'll keep an eye out for that supernatural episode when it finally screens here

the night stalker wouldnt have anything to do with night rider would it? *shudder*
it's scary how you know so much about this alien abductions-government secrets genre... ever see an episode of the outer limits?!

Old or New Outer limits?
Saw them both, the new Outer limits is a bit more nastier.

The original "Night Stalker" is about a reporter who manages to
stumble across all sorts of weird stuff. He is no knight but he gets the job done.
Sometimes they have marathons on the sci fi channel.

Watched all the weird stuff, Buffy the vampire slayer, Angel, Charmed, Poltergeist: the legacy and Dark angel.

omfg! you need to get out more! buffy is still on late at night here, charmed gets prime spots (but no-one watches it!) and dark angel... what can i say? loved watching that, no matter what hour of the night it was on...

Saw the last buffy episode and this is Charmed's last year.
Hopefully I will get to watch it.

hehe another glass forest... interesting! this looks more of a crystal forest to me for some reason, or shards of glass if anything. Ive seen a little bit of threshold and yeah this is very similar indeed!

I think the lighting and atmosphere could be spruced up just a bit though. Its because its a bit clustered, and then with the amount inside, it has to reflect and refract more and that slows down ya machine and takes forever to render. the less is more theory would work well here.

anywayz, thats just my opinion. dont take any notice of it. overall, its quite nice

cheers

hmm, i kinda see what you mean... i tried to create a detailed scene both in the foreground and the background, but yeah, i couldve used a few less objects which wouldve sped up the render time... oh well!
Thanks for the nifty comments!
