Description Yay! second assignment ya ha terminado!! ive already posted up designs from the concept stage for the restaurant, so now here are some of the pages from the final hand-in...

bear in mind, i have incredible sketching abilities- overlay these on top of sketchup images in photoshop and they dont look half bad

plus, since i just finished the oral im going to do tomorrow, i'll post up some b/g info...

"the concepts that have driven the melding food and architecture in the House of Fire restaurant have developed over time to try and evoke the sensory experiences of food preparation and cooking at its most primitive of levels. The architectural solution has evolved from a close examination of the spiraling forms of fire- what would a building inspired by an open flame look like? –the large range of materials that combine to form a distinctly Australian framework has helped define a built envelope for the feverish activity within. Materials such as custom orb for roofing and mini orb for cladding are a symbolic gesture to fire’s ability to shape metals- other materials such as glass and aerated concrete block add further definition to this wide palette."

I know this was forever ago, but I just decided to check back here and go through the zillions of stuff in my inbox. I really like this one! All the little details are so cool. I could see this hanging up in a pizza parlor or coffee shop somewhere. I love it! The colors are really good - make it seem cozy.

I love the perspective. It’s a technique I have used before (and will use again) overlaying on a cad image. There is no point in spending hours on a model when you can sketch things faster - but a quick model really helps to get the perspective and gets around the problem issue of the "blank page".

As for the design - I like it! I'm really liking the lights you have - very cool. And the description gave a good indication for the concept.

thanks! since i started the cad model early, it wouldve been a shame not to use it for the sketching in the last submission (we couldnt use cad images by themselves! ) the lighting was really a last-minute venture thru the design books i have- theres an ongoing exhibition in the eastern states of aus called 'space' and i spotted Ingo Maurer's 'XXL Dome' lights in there. ive also seen them in residential back-alley fitouts, and they looked pretty cool there too.

check out the ingo maurer website too -its well worth a visit for ideas [link]

Thanks for the link the lighting looks very interesting - i've not come across them before. Its a shame they don't let you use cad images for your presentation - but you appear to cope rater well with the sketching.

thanks! yup, i survived... it was a bit of a cheating method tho- overlaying sketch images over faded cad images seemed to be the right mix anyway.
