Description First piece on my new iMac. Testing stuff, trying to get back into shape.
Obviously, the flare in the picture is not where the main light source is.
Huge thanks to =resurgere for the amazing textures

excellent. totally amazing planet colors i also like the texture and starfield very much. but i don't understand why the smaller planet is lit from the bottom left of the image :< other than that, excellent!

Thank you, thank you. Both planets are lit from a lightsource that is not visible in the actual picture. It is much brighter than the flare visible.
But yeah, thanks a lot!

ahhh.. perhaps shift the flare thats there so it doesnt' appear to be lighting that larger planet? they're angles seem right on almost. regardless, i love this image

ohh I'm such a slow replier. Sorry about that.
Yeah, I suppose the flare is kinda confusing, but it doesn't bother me. Again sorry, but I'm not gonna change it.
And it makes me really happy to hear you love the image

Astonishing piece. I love the realism. The Large planet is brilliant, love the textures and the canyons visible on its surface. I definitely like all the little galaxies situated around the scene. Very impressive work indeed.

Thanks a lot man Glad you like it for the things I paid most attention to; realism, planet texture, galaxy/star-field. Thanks again!

No probs, seeing things like this makes me think about whats out there, but at the same time brings the mood a little down as I'm unable to go up and see it for myself. Your very welcome.

love the lightning on the planets!!! nice job man I really like that light/galaxy.. the bg looks like a nasa photo! Well the idea and composition are too simple to make it a brilljant piece but thats obvious

Yeah, it was just a practice trying to get back into it again. I tried to make the star-field look realistic. I'm taking an astronomy class here, so that might have influenced me.
Thanks man

the light on the little planet is wrong... there should be some light on the right side too, caused by the little sun

it's a simple concept. nice texture on the bigger one

19-10 In reply to TobiasRoetsch [2007-09-21 14:52:37 +0000 UTC]

No, it's not wrong. Sorry to disappoint you. The light of the main light source is too strong. Also, the planet is really really close to 'the little sun' which means only a really small part of the planet would be seen from this side. Trust me, the lighting is not wrong.
Thanks for your comment.

Actually, taking into account that that isn't the primary lightsource, the lighting on the planet is done really well, almost like you used a 3d program for it. I also really like that galaxy in the background.

Thanks man, glad you noticed the galaxy. Actually all the lights are meant to be galaxies.
Glad you like it, even though it was just a quick get-back-into-things-practice
