Description First time trying tablet weaving.

Nobody really taught me; I dug the instructions out of the intrawebs. Here are some good sites for beginners:

housebarra.com/EP/ep04/22table… and homepage.ntlworld.com/shelagh.… explain the basic technique and how to make the tablets.

I didn't create the patterns; the first one is from here koti.mbnet.fi/almie/lautanauha… and the second is an adaptation of a pattern found on the GTT application homepage: www.guntram.co.za/tabletweavin…

Overall, the craft is much fun, albeit quite slow. Try it out!

wow, that was your first try at tablet weaving? you must be a genius i have done several attempts and only one has turned out well enough to be shown :grinning:

it's really fun doing this, but i have a lot of trouble warping the loom, i always end up having one or more tablets warped the wrong way :/.

congratulations it's really cool

Thanks.

Well, this was the first finished piece of work in about... seventeen years. I remember attempting to learn the technique out of curiosity when I was 11-12, but never really completed anything. I recalled the basic idea when I started again a couple of weeks back, but I think those websites gave pretty good guidance. I'm not claiming I didn't have troubles during the first few hours and later on. I ended up re-arranging the threads a couple of times and undoing and redoing several segments of the belt(s). I don't really even have a proper loom. The threads have been attached to the armrest of a sofa. I dunno, I'm an engineer by basic education, so maybe I'm just used to tinkering with systems. Not a genius.

I have the same problem with the tablets, but I try to keep track of their alignment with a numbering scheme. It really helps when the pattern starts looking more or less deformed. Also some corrections can be done with needle and string afterwards.

I need to redo my tablets now, though, as some of them broke down during the second work. Gotta get some better material than cardboard.

(BTW, saw your loom. Way nifty! )

great! it's an awsome idea to use a needle and a string to correct mistakes... i will do that. It's really admirable how fast you managed to get that pattern turn out well - i'm trying to weave it right now and it's impossible. I must have warped it wrongly and now i can't get the damn pattern to work.

I did my cards with thin wood, they are 5x5 cms and there's 26 of them. I need to make some more but i didn't have money enough to buy more wood . Wood is the best you can use for tablets. I tried using cards but they kept breaking and it was awful.

My loom is cool i love it. I haven't used it much lately because i'm having real trouble with the patterns and i don't want to end throwing away more yarn, so i will wait until i can ask the friend to built it for help.

That is so cool. I've never been able to wrap my brain around how to do this, and that design you used is really pretty!

Very very good, especially if these are your first tries. Would be interesting to see more things like this from you.

That looks like it would be a good way to relax or perhaps get rather frustrated if things go wrong. Still it looks like it would be quite fun to try.
