This is a little something I drew some weeks back. My motivation for drawing it was my need to do simply styled drawings at the time and when I read the girl's comment about herself I felt I wanted to make her smile a bit, since she seem to not find herself pretty. I think she has something unique and I liked the stare in the particular photo.Reference: [link]

I like the expression too and I feel you captured it very well. I also like how bright everything is and how it's not filled with shading. Not to say that there's anything wrong with realism portraits like that but they all look so dark. This one looks very happy and I like it that way.

I took a look at the reference, and I really think that she is beautiful ... you just brought that point across more clearly (as a drawing is logically much more flawless than any photo ... OK, at least your drawings, mine probably aren't ... ^^).
