Have you ever fallen in love with an artwork, then turned the price tag over and gone into convulsions? That's been me lately. -_- Ever since moving into my new house, I've been shopping madly for the perfect piece for a huge wall near my door. And, the perfect piece presented itself about a week ago in a furniture shop. But there's one small problem. It'll set me back 800 DOLLARYDOOS. Yeah, nah.

But but but... I've still got to have it. ;__; See, it's a Kingfisher, and it's a gorgeous watercolour, and it reminds me of one of my fav mythological birds, the Halcyon. But the artwork and artist was nowhere to be found online, and combing through every homeware shop resulted in nothing else that compared. So what's a girl do do? Fork out an obscene amount of cashola, or... break out Photoshop and paint it myself for half the price.

I pretty much took a photo of the artwork in the store, then imported it into Photoshop and referenced it as I painted digitally. What I've recreated mimics the original shape and pose of the kingfisher in the painting, but whereas it was a traditional watercolour, I'm limited to what I can do digitally. The wings in the original were speedlines, whereas my version has more splatter. However I got pretty darn close, and this image is now with a print and framing shop to make this artwork a reality. I can't wait until it arrives!

I have to admit though, this goes against all my instincts. >__>;; I have no name or image online to credit the original painting, so should the original artist come across this, do let me know so I can credit accordingly. I set out to do this purely for personal reasons, not to profit.

Anyway, hope you all enjoy my interpretation of that stunning piece! If you'd seen it in person, you'd understand why I went to these lengths.
