Description
Sans and Papyrus’s respective issues can clash badly at times. It’s even harder because they both don’t remember where those issues even came from and really have no idea how to deal with them. They’re just kind of fumbling blindly.
So many echoes from things that don’t exist anymore! Papyrus’s is more positive , and Sans’s have a pretty distinct theme going on. I also wanted to reference this scene but couldn’t quite find a way to fit it in anywhere. So just keep it in mind I guess, haha.
You can sort of consider this as the darker flipside to Sans’s inner thoughts about scarves . Same thing, just in a different light. Similarly Papyrus’s thoughts showed up when he first learned about making friends .

The way Papyrus craves approvement is just like how children act in real life. I knew a small girl who was starved just enough as a baby that she always had an eating disorder, because it was programmed into her that she always had to eat. It's really sad.

I only now realised that here Sans almost looks like a Gaster Follower/Goner due to the colour palette of his clothes and the lighting. Was that intentional?

How would Sans even smoke those cigarettes, he can't even open his freaking mouth.
Also, I only just noticed now that they're in that mystery room by Gyftrot's place with the weird door in Snowdin. I always thought they were in Waterfall for some reason...
Also, Sans isn't just wearing Gaster's jacket, he's even wearing that black/dark gray turtleneck Gaster always wore under his labcoat!

The question of how Sans would smoke cigarettes was a genuine speculation, not questioning if he did smoke them here or there coz he didn't, I do read the descriptions, FYI.
Even when I first read this chapter, I knew he didn't smoke them (perhaps mostly because I didn't notice them, but whatever).
I first noticed them after reading the description, I think.
My question was genuine, not about if he did it there and then or not. Just so you know.

The smoky smell reminds him of Gaster (he was a smoker), so its a self-deprecation thing.
