I love the fire in the background, the way her dress moves counteracts the motion of the flames. I like how her eyes glow, they twinkle and dance just like a fairy's. The background is smooth and I like the gentle transition between lights and darks. I also like the difference between the cool purple on the top left and the vibrant fire on the bottom right. Finally I like the dresss! I don't know if those are tatters or designs at the bottom, but they add to the whole effect either way.

Thank you - they are tatters! I'm glad that some of the things I wanted to convey in the piece came through Β

I really like this concept. The values are very very good. They are smooth and very idealistic I really like that. I love how there is a light source and how the two different elements are created with different textures. I really like the detail of adding the little phoenix with the fire (very cute). The movement in the dress is very very beautiful. The anatomy is very good, once again, it is very idealistic and I really like that. The fire looks very cool and intense it catches my attention I even see little faces stuck in there :3. Maybe the shadow element could be as eye catching as the fire element just for the sake of visual balance, but then again it is shadow so I do understand that it is more hidden and subtle. The artwork is amazing the way it is, but a tiny suggestion could be to add a more yellowish light hitting the figure, you already have it, but maybe a little bit more exaggerated, but that is only my own personal preference. I do believe it looks very nice the way it already is. Very good job overall loved it! (:Β

You see a face in the fire? I didn't make one intentionally - haha - but I did make one in the shadow. I think there's some sense in trying to balance it out more and add more "glow" from the fire, so to speak. Thank you very much for your kind words!

The dress reminds me of the way elves women were dressed in Dragon Age II, very good. The bottom of the dress is really well done, it looks really soft, lace-like. I like the way her body twists around the fire, as in some kind of ancient dance. However, something strange is going on with her legs. To me, it seems as if she has two left legs. There's something a bit odd with her balance. Also, her whole body would pop out if the fire reflected a stronger light on her dress, make it look almost transparent, as her dress looks a lot like it's made of lace. Her face doesn't seem to be affected by the light of the fire either. The background looks well blended, but a bit distracting because of the airbrush/ soft brush. Overall, I think it's a nice piece, with a cool concept behind.Β

Thank you very much for the kind words and the input! I think I'll try to do a more realistic background to "ground" the character more the next time I try something like this. And definitely take the fire in mind more! It's a bit weak as it is right now, haha.

I really like the pastel color scheme you used in this. The colors go very nicely together and are easy and calm on the eyes. Speaking of the eyes. My eyes instantly go to her's, very intense. The skin is nicely toned and smooth, but the clothes, are even better. They flow beautifully leaving necessary wrinkles to show not only her shape, but her movement as well. I can feel the power and elegance of the character. The elements used, are very interesting. The only thing I would work on is maybe the hair. Although it is nicely done, it seems a bit stiff compared to the rest of the body. Still I think this is awesome and think you did amazing!!Β

Thank you for your input! The hair does look very stiff compared to the rest of it - I'll have to work on understanding it better. I'm glad that the eyes give that effect!

How did you do the shading for the dress?

I built it up by "layering" out the shadows when the colours were still flat - then tried to mesh them together. After that, I also used multiply layers to "deepen" the effect of the folds? It's hard to explain, haah.

Somehow I managed to kill the resolution on these but I hope they're somewhat helpful to the first stages, before adding effects.
