I was about to mention Andibi but I see that I am a day late and a dollar short. Excellent work.

I think the world of him. At first I thought that he had two accounts, but I soon realized that drawing was in his style and not yours. I will be keeping an eye on you!

If you do, it will be hard to follow them when they turn on those cloaking hoods and boots, if you do manage to track them you will have to be quick to catch up when they slip through the portal. If you jump through that you will be on the inside of a quarantine air lock in a research station on Teal Haven. A lot of scientists and security personnel would look at you for a moment then press a button sending you back where you came from. XD

This is really fantastic, both story and art -- I can well imagine what a great secret such a discovery would be, certainly on the part of the Upland Villagers! I also like the overall atmosphere of innocence that you have woven into the scene. The forest setting is really cool, too -- I am flattered that you've replicated some of my fantasy "botany" here, especially the ground cover -- Your own work shows a lot more care with regard to this point and I've been thinking that I should really study plant forms more closely.
Thanks very much for thinking of me and for this wonderful gift -- I know the effort that goes into a piece like this and I'm truly humbled by it. Thank you again.

I'm happy you like it there is actually another of these I would like to do as well involving the chital deer people.
I have always enjoyed the plants in the background of your pictures. My botanical geek mind has already set to work interpreting the species as being a host of foxglove, dock, butterworts, orchids, bromeliads, ferns, and cycads. Creating a mix of plants that I imagined would delight this ethnobotanist and ecologist pair who are trying to build an inventory of the local Flora and fauna.

Cool -- I'll look forward to seeing that!
I know a little bit about orchids and bromeliads (My mom used to keep them), but that's really about it -- I'm thinking I should find some handy atlas of jungle flora (if such a thing exists!)

actually something like that does exist, a lot of nature parks and preserves post species lists of there native plant and animal species. I've used these to match habitats and make up new ecologies based on mixtures I have in my mind. This is the trick behind a lot of my environmental backgrounds.

Good to know -- I'll poke around on the net and see what I can find. I'm thinking South or Central America would work pretty well.
Thanks!

Nice work! Andibi will love it.
Extra points for my favorite Arthur C Clarke quote. My Master's thesis was on early history of science and I placed this quote in thesis.

I hope so I even tried to match the flora featured in his pictures.
If you look at this on the surface it seems very much like a fairy folk narrative. But knowing they are actually scientist from a more advanced culture in another dimension I feel makes it every bit as enchanting as it being magic.

I think you did a good job with that. It's interesting how we used Andibi's setting differently. I like narratives where the magic is actually technology all along. Ever read "Litany of the Long Sun" by Gene Wolfe?
