Chapter 7
Redemption

"There is no place like home.
Yet some people have no home.
Then they must make the world their home.
What life gives, you receive."

"This will be all for today's class. Remember to pray before going to sleep. Otherwise you will have some problems with the next lessons." A brown wolf said while he watched his students grab their books and writing tools and leave the classroom one by one. When the last student's white robe had dissappeared behind the door and into the corridoor leading into the other parts in the castle, he sat down and sighed. "Another day behind, so many promising students. I wonder how many of them actually keep themselves on the good road, the dark sides have their temptations. But I guess there is nothing to worry about, since the murder of a dark council member and no candidates to fill the place. He who killed the dark council member might be a hero for killing an evil dictator, yet he is murderer, in everyone's eyes."

The wolf sighed again and rose up, grabbing his books in one simple paw movement. He walked to the window and closed his yellow eyes. The sound of the raindrops raining on the windows was so calming, yet somehow, it was all so wild. The weather was calming, yet wild. It couldn't be contained, but it will never be completely free. He leaned his head against the cool glass. It felt so good to just feel the cold glass against his fore head. Then he woke up from his trance as a thunder struck down. As he opened his eyes he could see the lightning striking down close to the school's walls. He looked at the front gates and he saw a figure walking in the rain. But suddenly the figure fell on it's knees and stopped moving. "Oh my" The wolf said while he began to run through the corridoors and finally ended up in the great hall. He dropped his books next to a statue that represented one of the gods they worshipped. The wolf pushed the door open as he felt the cold wind and the rain on his fur. He could barely see the figure that had struggled to get a few more steps inside the school's grounds.

"Hey! Are you allright?" The wolf yelled to the canine who had curled up and seemed to be in pain. "Come on! Wake up!" The wolf yelled as he shook the canine body in case he would have woke up. "Never mind, I'll carry you!" The wolf grabbed the canine's paw and began to drag him inside the school, away from the rain and the cold wind. "Ugh, the weather is getting worse. You must have been very lucky to survive this long." The wolves said while he studied the canine in the light of the roof crystals. The figure seemed to be a canine-feline hybrid, not only that, but his fur was ruffled up and dirty, he had small cutting wounds here and there in his body, he had even wrapped his wrists in cloth. "Propably because of some serious wounds. Best to clean them and placed proper bandages on them." The wolf said as he began to unwrap the hybrid from the dirty pieces of cloth he had used as bandages.

When the wolf was half way done, he began to feel restless. He could feel a strange magical energy from the hybrid. He continued to unwrap the wrists and finally he saw why he had felt the strange energy. The hybrid was a necromancer. His fur was still wet and made the symbols detailed, some of the symbols even glowed. His both wrists had been severly cut, he must have been really suicidal, yet he hadn't killed himself. "My god, what has life been throwing at you? Some of your wounds are infected and some are still open. We better get you to a proper healers room. There is only so little I can do for you here." The wolf said as he picked up the hybrid and began to carry him as gently as he could.

Early in the morning, the hybrid was properly bandaged and cleaned, yet he had been bound in the bed with leather belts, just incase he would try and hurt himself.Β Β The window was open and a small breeze got in and went by a female wolf who sitting in a chair and reading a book. She sighed an close the book she was reading. "How long are you going to continue beeing unconcious? It has been a week since my brother found you. You should have allready healed and woken up. He said that you had walked here in the rain and that you had collapsed outside in the rain. Just what is wrong with you? My brother said something about your wrists, that you had some serious wounds." The wolf touched gently the hybrid's bandaged wrists. She could feel the soft fiber of the bandages, yet somehow she couldn't feel any life coming from the wrists. Her curiousity grew and she looked if the door was closed.

She began to unwrap the hybrid's wrists as quietly as she could, the worst thing that could happen would be that the hybrid would wake up. She opened the bandages and at times she would look at the door incase someone would happen to drop by. The door was closed and the only sound she could hear were some birds outside, but they wouldn't tell anyone. When she finished the unwrapping, she was stunned. She had seen them lots of times, but never this closely. "The necromancer symbols. The symbols of death." She whispered to herself as the wind began to blow stronger. She touched one of the glowing symbols, she couldn't feel anything. It was all dead.

But then suddenly she could feel a strong force hitting her face and making her fly into the wall. The hybrid had awoken and was obviously in shock. Even if he had been restrained, he had somehow managed to break the belts he had been bound by. But the white magicians were known to have a back-up plan. There were symbols painted in the floor around the bed. From the symbols came a yellow glow as they sent out light beams that made the hybrid's arms to wrap around his body. Making it harder for him to hurt others and himself. But the hybrid was still in shock wich resulted in alot of adrealine getting pumped in his system. His body fought against the spell and he managed to start banging his forehead against the rails at the opposite end of the bed. His bangings were loud and the she wolf had started to scream in fear as the hybrid's yells filled the room and soon even the corridoor as a female tigress opened the door and casted a immobility spell on the hybrid. When the hybrid noticed he was bound by a spell, his self-destructive behaviour turned into fear.

The tigress studied the wolf who had been slammed in the wall, just incase she had gotten any serious wounds. "What happened?" The tigress said as she began to concentrate healing magic on the wound in the wolf's forehead. The wolf could feel a tingling feeling as the wound was healed. "I didn't mean it! I just wanted to check if his cutting wounds had healed! I didn't know he was a necromancer! I didn't mean it! I just thought that it was the best thing to do! I didn't mean it!" The wolf said while she looked in the tigress' brown eyes and looked for comfort.

The hybrid had heard the words "I didn't mean it." And they ringed in his ears for a while because they reminded him of what had happened to his mother and father because of him, a flow of tears began to come from his purple eyes. "I didn't mean it...I didn't mean it. I didn't mean for it to happen." The hybrid whispered as his paw reached for his throat. He tried to find his crystal that he had used as an amulet ever since his parents were killed and he sealed them inside the crystal in order for them to be spared the journey of death. He couldn't find it. His heart began to hit faster as he began to search for his amulet, making pillows fall and furniture breaking. "Where is it? Where is it?! Where is my amulet?" The hybrid yelled as he broken through the immobility and the binding spells. Both the tigress and the wolf gasped in surprise as they heard the hybrid breaking free from the spells.

Suddenly the hybrid turned his head and looked with a frightened look at the two who where sitting on the floor, shocked. "Where is it? Where is my amulet?" He whispered while he began to whimper. The tigress was confused by what she had heard, but the wolf remembered that his brother had taken the amulet and placed it on the bookcase in one of the corners of the room. She slowly rose up and began to step towards the bookcase while not breaking eye contact with the whimpering hybrid. She grabbed the crystal and began to study it. "What could be so important in this rock? It looks like a normal soul stone. Maybe he had locked someone in there? But why would he then want the stone back? If someone would lock something inside a soul stone, it's allways to stop someone from running away or keeping them away. Maybe he's an bounty hunter who has hunted down a dangerous murderer or rapist. That would be so cool! I have never before seen a bounty hunter."

As the wolf studied the stone, the hybrid had started to become suspicious of her. He leaned a little bit and catched a glimp of a soul stone. The very same he had locked his parents in. "No! Keep away from them!" The hybrid yelled as he leaped towards the wolf. She turner around and did what every other young, virgin female would do when a stranger who wasn't wearing any clothing at all. She screamed like a little girl and ducked. But the hybrid wasn't interested in the screaming wolf, he grabbed the crystal from the air and landed near the door. He noticed the door and no one could stop him. He dashed down the corridoors as the many of the other doors opened as different species wanted to check what the scream was all about. The hybrid ran by and knocked down a dozen of the white mages as he tried to not find a dead-end. As he ran, he looked every now and then at the windows. He was near a forest, appearantly in a castle and there was a river nearby. He could see the distance mountains. On the other side was his home.

The windows began to flash by slowly and his breathing had become heavy. "What...What is happening to me?" The hybrid whispered as he fell down on his knees and began to cough. He placed his paw infront of his muzzle and coughed. He felt something warm on his paw. Blood. He had coughed up blood and his internal organs felt like they were on fire. "What is this pain? It feels like my organs are getting torn apar- Aargh!" The hybrid began to twist around the cold stone floor as the pain just got worse and worse. Suddenly he had a moment of peace as the pain withdrew a little. At the same time the white mages came from around the corner and walked up to him. "Hey! Are you okay? What is your name?" The male healer said as he crouched and began to examine the hybrid in case he had any wounds.

"Zachorias Furosa. What is this pa- Argh! What the hell is this pain? What did you do to me?" Zachorias yelled while he continued to cough up blood. "We have done nothing more than treating your wounds. But it appears that you have been infected with some of the local wasp's poison. They can be fatal in these lands. You walked through the forest, correct? The one surrounding our school? There are several hives there. Now don't move or else the poison will spread faster." Zachorias could hear the mouse healer's voice and could barely understand what he was saying. "Well, though luck then. Since the pain has withdrawn and my hearing is going down. I'd say the poison has gone pretty far allrea..." Zachorias mumbled as he lost conciousness. "Zachorias? Zachorias! Shit! We need some anti poison. Common. One bottle. And hurry it up will ya? Other wise the next time we'll see him is on his funerals."

Zachorias could feel the poison flowing through his veins as his mind fell down into the darkness. "What a way to go. Wasp poison. I'd be lucky that I even get accepted into the paradise with my pitiful death. I wonder if I'll survive this and live to die some other way. I doubt it. The poison has propably allready gone so far that I'm too far for help. Honestly, I can't believe that I'm gonna die from some bug stings. I can't believe it! I won't believe it nor will I give my soul to death this easily! I am Zachorias Furosa, the son of Christopher and Ashley Furosa. I have been cursed with the armor of pain. Therefore I don't have a right to the peace of death before my curse has been lifted. Besides, I can't die before gettign revenge on those who tricked me into killing my parents." Zachorias' heart felt as if it had been stabbed by a thousand daggers. It wasn't the poison. It was the sickening sadness of guilt. "I killed them. It's all my fault! I killed them. But I didn't mean it. I killed them! I don't deserve life. I don't even deserve to excist. Then why didn't those other necromancers kill me? Why did they leave me alive?" Zachorias asked himself while the pain was getting worse. "Mom. Dad. I miss you both so much. I got you killed. It was all my fault. I didn't mean it!" Zachorias yelled as he woke up in a room. The room had white smooth walls and two windows, both a little open. The white curtains were moving as he could feel the wind blow inside. "What happened? Did I survive? What about the poison? Gah. Can't remember." Suddenly Zachorias was struck with a flashback. He could hear a voice in his head. His voice. "I killed them, it's all my fault. I killed them." Zachorias felt the pain coming back, he could feel his heart being stabbed by invisible daggers. "No! I didn't kill them! I didn't mean it! I didn't kill them!" Zachorias could see his reflection in the glass window.

"No! I didn't kill them!" Zachorias yelled as he grabbed a flower vase and threw it through the window. "I didn't mean it! I didn't want them to die. I didn't mean it." Zachorias whimpered as he began to unwrap his wrists that the healers had treated. "I didn't mean it, I didn't want them to die." Zachorias whispered to himself as he twisted his arm so that the necromancer symbols came forth. He quickly slit his wrist with his claws. Drops of blood began to fall on the bedsheet. A few tears flowed from Zachorias' eyes as he slit his other wrist too. He knew that he wouldn't die easily if the wounds were in his wrists, thanks to his symbols the wounds closed amazingly fast. But the burning pain was still there. The door opened and a few healers stepped in. "Did you slit your wrists? You know that it can be a real pain to get bood stains away from bed sheets." One of the healers said while bandaging Zachorias' wrists again. "Sorry." Zachorias replied while feeling ashamed of his actions. "But what else can I do? This is the only way to deal with the darkness that I have been cursed with."

One of the healers stepped infront of Zachorias and whispered in his ear. "You know very well that once you have become a necromancer, there is no way for you to be normal ever again. But, there is something we can do for you. It will make the darkness a lot easier to handle. Are you willing to try?"

Zachorias couldn't believe what he was hearing. Something to help him? "Yes. Yes I am willing to try what ever you have. As long as it makes the dark powers I have weaker, then I will try anything. But what is it that you are talking about?" Zachorias asked the white mages as his mood brightened as a candle. "We will simply train you as a white mage. You can stay here for as long as you want and learn the ways of the white magicians. But if you want to join our school, we need to hurry. Since the high priestess is going to give the new candidates their blessing soon. And we need to get you some robes. We can get the books later." The head healer said as he helped Zachorias up on his paws and began to guide him to the cathedral.

Zachorias was standing in a big church like building. There were hundreds of people standing behind him and the other students who were willing to become white magicians. Zachorias couldn't help it but feel relaxed and at peace. The necromatic powers he had been given years ago would finally be hidden away by the powers of light. He smiled and tears come out of his eyes. Tears of joy. The high priestess walked to each candidate and let the crystal hover above each candidate's arms and drew the symbols that would mark them as magicians of the light. When the high priestess came to Zachorias she quickly studied him and whispered. "The darkness that today will be put to sleep will not sleep forever. But do not fear, you will some day learn how to fully control your holy powers, as well as the dark powers you have."

The crystal hovered above Zachorias' hands and he could feel a slight tingling feeling as the symbols were forming on his arms. The symbols began to glow blue directly after the high priestess had moved on to the next candidate. He could feel the darkness, but it was moving further away. Getting weaker and finally he couldn't feel it at all. The darkness had been put to sleep and Zachorias could finally begin to live happily again. But somewhere in his soul the dark powers had hidden itself. Only to wake up some day and unleash fury on those who oppose him.
