Chapter 5
The Beginning of the Darkness

The wind was blowing inside a small corridoor, well lit with candle lights and open windows. Alltough it was late in the evening and everyone were getting ready to sleep, one room was open. In the room there was a canine-feline hybrid lying on the bed, he had been in the hospital wing for allmost one whole week, without any progress. The vixen who had fallen asleep on the bed had been sitting by his side since the first day he had been wounded, waiting for the hybrid to wake up, she had only moved if the doctors and healers needed to do some tests on him. There was still someone else in the room, a healer who was trying to wake the hybrid from his current status. After one try and another, the fox gave up since he felt his magic powers running out. He sighed and walked out of the room and allmost knocked over one of the few healers who were still working. "I'm sorry, my mind has been wandering alot lately and I didn't look where I was going." He said while bowing his head in a respectabel motion.

"How is the hybrid doing? Is he still unconcious?" A female deer healer asked her colleague, the older male who had tried and awaken the patient lying on the bed. "No, and I don't even understand it. I am the head healer in this school, I have cured poisonings, healed minor and major wounds, fixed broken bones and healed cursed people. Yet I do not have the skills to heal one lousy student who goes and gets himself injured himself so badly that he can't be awaken, have you learned how he got injured so badly? Was it just a bad luck or was his opponent really strong?" He asked the female healer while they began to walk down the corridoors, checking if all the patients were asleep. "Everything I have managed to learn is that he battled first with another student who was a few years older and experienced than him, after that he fought our very own headmaster, Shrael."

The fox was impressed, since no student before had survived a battle against Shrael. "He fought Shrael? And he got some major injuries, concusion and a major mental damage. Either Shrael's skills are getting worse or this student was really lucky. What is the the student's name, and who is that female who has been so worried about him?" The deer began to look through some papers and after some seconds she found the student records she was looking for and read out loud:

"Zachorias Furosa
Age: 20 Years, started studying at the age of 16.
Specie: Male Feline-Canine hybrid.
Class: Medium Ice, Major Necromancy, Minor Curse.
Special marks or markings: Purple eyes, retractable claws.
Family: Ashley Furosa (Mother) Christopher Furosa (Father) Zasha Furosa (Sister).
Supply of spiritual energy: Grand
Past visits: Minor curses, minor flesh wounds."

"Well, he hasn't been here much but atleast we got his name, the vixen's record is here." The deer said while handing over the records over to the fox.

"Celine Jerno
Age: 19 Years, started studying at the age of 16
Specie: Female Red Fox.
Class: Minor Ice, Major Necromancy, Medium Curse.
Special Marks or markings: None.
Family: Mother (deceased) Father (deceased) no other siblings.
Supply of spiritual energy: Above normal
Past visits: None"

Both healers were quiet for a moment, the fox had heard the name "Furosa" somewhere, but where? "Furosa, that name rings a bell, but I can't really say where I'v heard it before, do you know if you have heard his name before?" The deer thought for a moment and she remembered something. "I remember reading about their family, his family is somewhat famous because his great-great-great grandfather or something like that was married with one of the greatest sorceress of her time. Could it be that her magical powers have appeared with this young boy? It wouldn't be the first time this happens, you know? There are a few of 'them' out there, maybe he is one, wouldn't that also explain why Headmaster Shrael didn't kill him and why you have a hard time healing him?"

The fox healer stopped walking and he had a blank face expression, suddenly he began to smile like he had gotten a solution to a problem that had been haunting him for years, he could barely hold his enthusiasm and hugged the female healer. "That's it! You're a genius! I'm gonna take you to a dinner after this week, you've just solved one of the my biggest problems! Thank you, thank you, thank you!" He said while hugging the female deer and then running to the library to do research. "Huh? Buh? Wha-?" The female healer was left standing there, blushing and confused. "I think I need to lay down. Or maybe I need some alcohol, yes alcohol. Something strong, there is no way my nerves could survive a date with him." She said while grabbing the bottle of whisky from one of the cupboards in the workers break room. The whisky did help her nerves and didn't make the dinner look so terrifying anymore. She walked to the room where Zachorias was and put a blanket on Celine. "Sleep well, little vixen. Good night to both of you." She wispered while closing the door leading to the corridoor.

The next morning Celine woke up because she heard pawsteps from the corridoor, she rose up and yawned just as the door opened and behind it stood the head healer who's fur was really messed up, wich was unusual for healers. The dark cloaked figures behind him were first looking at Zachorias, then some of them looked at Celine barely taking any notice in her. They pushed Celine aside and stood beside Zachorias. "Is he the one?" A dark, male voice asked. Another voice replied, this time female's. "Yes, I can sense grand magical energies inside him, we need him to take the ritual."

Celine began to worry. "The ritual? Is he going away?" She had allways had a fast mind and she yelled out. "I'm going with him! He is still too weak to go alone!" The cloaked necromancers turned their heads and looked directly into Celine eyes. She could feel that they found her extreemly annoying. "He is far stronger than you think, this is something you can't help him with. So now, SHUT THE HELL UP!" One of the females yelled, Celine could feel the cold voice freezing her mind. One of the cloaked males stepped forward and infront of Celine.

"Vixen, have you gotten any sleep? You look tired." His voice was strange, it sounded threatening and boring at the same time. Celine could feel her concetration floating away. "N-no. Since I just woke up when you walked down the corridoor." She said while struggling to keep herself concentrated and alert incase someone tried something suspicious. "Well, then I think you should go back asleep, NOW." He placed his paw on Celine head and she felt her concious mind going away, she fell asleep on the chair she stood infront of. "Why must you be so kind to your victims? It wouldn't kill you to be like a real necromancer every now and then." The female voice said with a slight disgust in her tone. "Are you saying that by casting on her a sleeping spell, wich will ruin her good night sleep for a few days, wich will affect her magic energy recharging, wich will lead her to not be able to cast any spells in the next few days. Besides, if the chair wouldn't have been there, she would have fallen down and possibly gotten a slight concusion. Are you saying I am not capable of being evil, don't forget that since you're a member who chooses the members into the Dark Council and you're the ice professional, you are not as strong in other necromatic areas, let's say, curses and manipulation perhaps? I could easily infiltrate your dreams and show you your deepest and darkest fears."

One of the necromancers stepped in between the two others who were fighting. "Enough! Do not forget that even though you both aren't masters of every area of necromancy, you both have your oaths to think of, and let's not forget that we're here on a mission, after that mission is completed you can fight, not now, not on the journey, not in the middle of the ritual. But after, do you understand?" His dragon eyes glowed while he walked back to the bed and gave the fox healer the permission to try out if his research was correct.

The fox revealed a potion from under his cloak and made Zachorias drink it. He couldn't drink the whole potion but the fox said it was enough for the spell to work. The healer began to chant and draw symbols in between him and Zachorias. The symbol began to change into a glowing orb. The fox stopped to chant and began to adjust the magical energies to go into Zachorias' head. The next few seconds flew by fast, in one second the orb broken into streams of energy and they flew into Zachorias' head. Right after that he opened his eyes, his purple eyes scanned the room in a few seconds and stopped at the chair Celine was sitting on. He rose immediatly from the bed but was held back by two of the cloaked necromancers. "Don't worry about her, she has just had problems sleeping, she had been sitting by your bed the whole week, missing classes and loosing sleep, so let her sleep. You can come back and meet her after we are done with the ritual."

Zachorias was confused, he had just woken up from a long sleep, he was hungry, in pain and the confusion didn't help him one bit. "Ritual, what ritual do you mean? I don't know how long I'v been asleep but just now the most important things are tha-" But these words didn't make any difference to the necromancers, they insisted that Zachorias would just let her sleep and come with them. "But I can atleast write a note to her if she wakes up? Just incase she would begin to worry." The dragon sighed and thought how in earth he got chosen as a candidate to the dark council. "Very well, if you insist. Write the note and we shall start the ritual once we arrive at your parent's home." Zachorias' mood went straight from unpleasantly confused to happy, he could go and see his parents after four years and tell them how good the school was and what else has been happening. "Ok, let me just put on some clothes and I'll be right done." Zachorias said while holding his head, he had a splitting headache and they wanted him to go on a journey home?

The necromancers stepped outside and began to wait for Zachorias to get ready. He put on his robes and began to search his pockets for some ink and some paper. He sat down and began to write. The note wasn't long but it was enough to describe the situation, why and where he was going and the permission to ask the Headmaster for the instructions to his family's house, just incase the journey would take a long time and she wouldn't have any place to go to.

"Sorry to leave you here with nothing but a note from me, but I have a feeling that this is something big, therefore I need to do it alone, without any friends. I hope you understand, farewell Celine, I hope we meet again soon." Zachorias whispered into the sleeping vixens ear while letting the note slip from his paw on her lap, he closed the window and picked up his backpack, somehow the necromancers had packed everything ready, all his books, where they had placed a few more, his equipment, his family's sword, some food and water. He placed the sword to hang on his belt and began to walk down the corridoor and out in the sunlight, while only feeling the unsettling feeling that none of the necromancers were good.

"Best to be prepared, they haven't mentioned anything about what the ritual is, nor what it needs. I should propably feel really excited, but for some reason, I feel nervous and I have a bad feeling about this." Zachorias said while stepping outside the Necromancer School grounds, he hadn't left the school in several years and fate has decided that Zachorias would never return into the school.

Exciting... But maybe you should have dramatized it a bit more, I don't know... Anyway, it's good.
