I can't believe this only has 19 faves! This piece immediately drew my attention because it wasn't the normal bowl of fruit, etc. Nothin' wrong with fruit, though. hehe.

Anyways, I really admire your talent. One thing I must ask: how do you manage to execute such crisp lines? I mean, this is almost photo-realistic! Do you actually draw it and then just...color in the lines with paint?

Thanks for the comment. The crisp lines can be achieved by using painters taper but on this one it was just done by a steady hand.

I love the subject matter of this painting. I have been working with this scale of painting for two paintings now, I was surprised to see the same dimensions in this work. I chose it because it seemed a comfortable size and fit for my reference at a 2:3 ratio. What are your considerations when you determine the size of your paintings?

Amazing ability, amazing eye for composition and subject.

Thanks for the comment. I liked working on this but i'm done using canvas unless I do something much larger. As for choosing a size to paint on, there's no real method. I know that I want to do very large works from now on though. They seem to grab the most attention.

I've seen SO MANY of those things in my life. They're a bitch to fix, especially when there's no spare wire length in the box...

Remarkable work. Is it hard to paint with oils in black and white like that?

Thanks for the comment and interest in the painting. I think black, white and gray is easier than using a ton of color. There is actually some yellow as well as a blue/brown mixture to give the painting warm and cool tones although the black and white overpowers the color purposely.

Huh. And it's on canvas - is oil easier on canvas than wood?

I like using wood panels more,it just takes a lot of work to prep them correctly.

I see. Honestly, as much as I like the digital art on this site, the pieces that impress me the most are always the traditional ones - paintings , pencil drawings , photographs , etc. I seriously admire the dedication and skill it requires to get as good at something as that. Of course, I have skills of my own, but they're not the sort that would impress a total stranger in quite that fashion. Right now, I'm trying to improve that in my writing - learning prose has been a mind-broadening challenge for me, and I have a long way to go.
