This is a page from my work in progress comic Knite ch4. I normally don't post single pages on my main account but I think this one deserves a bit more attention.
In the age of industrialization, the people of China, like the rest of the modern world, wants cheap and quick energy. Right now, most of their energy is from burning coal, and one new coal factory is built per week. The incredible amount of pollution there is almost unbearable. Every time I visit the land of my birth, I can hardly breath. Sometimes I have panic attacks, trying to get away from the suffocating air only to realize you can't escape from something that surrounds you.
The price of cheap energy is more than just low quality air, it can have real consequences on people's health. There's a steady rise in birth defects and still births in relation to the rising pollution. People need to realize everything comes at a cost. Be it Chinese coal or Canadian tar sand oil, you may temporary lower the price of energy and gas and save a few dollars, but the ultimate price you pay in the long term is far higher.
But there is hope. China is also building new wind turbines and solar grids at an incredible rate. The transition to sustainable energy is a must, and not just for China but the entire world. Whether you are choosing between a new fridge, car, policy, or president, remember to look beyond price tag of the dollar, and see what the true cost is in the long run. If a politician promises lower gas and energy prices at the cost of the environment and all future generations, then is't not worth it. Think about it. Is the future of our children so worthless that you would prefer to save a few dollars now and let them suffer later?

Some Chinese are illegally fishing in Korea and Japan. Yeah they can pay for shipments but for some reason they want to keep their money so badly that they're breaking laws made between other countries.

The pollution goes over so high... 180 is pretty high for my birth country... But it's average at China... It might also be a deal with the population they have but this is why my parents get really protective of what I eat and drink (Only stuff that's shipped from other countries she says...) But I feel guilty, because they have the money to keep me safe but I don't feel like I deserve it... And black markets in China is big, a lot of illegal stuff... But people depend on illegal things to live, we can't just destroy it. So a solution that might be impossible but as long as we try, it'll make at least one more person's life better.

It's at times like this when I'm proud of my family. Yes, there are problems in China, but it's amazing how fast their renewable energy is developing. My uncle spends a lot of time traveling to promote windmills, so I'm happy to see people standing up for renewable energy.

i know you probably get a million comments like this and mine probably won't get read, but i just want to say this.. i've been looking through your gallery for the past two hours.. i'd always seen your stuff but never bothered really looking at it all and just..wow..
it's all so beautiful, and your beliefs and views on things are just so powerful... i love that you can show them through your art and honestly with every picture i've only been crying more and more just because of how touching they are.. it's a shame how blind the world can be to these things and i really do believe that through your art you've either been making or can truely make a difference in this world..

Sen isn't her son, actually. Sen's real mother left because of all the population blocking the stars. She was just acting crazy because she didn't want to believe the fact that her own child had died. I just feel sorry for her...
