My sympathies go out to you. I just lost my cat at the end of April. I'm sure she had a happy life though and you can be proud to have been there for it.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is to lose a fur baby who was that old.
My dog, Inky, was 16 when she had to be put down, which was incredibly old for a pug mix. I literally grew up with that dog β we got her when I was in kindergarten and lost her when I was a senior in college out-of-state. Thankfully the only class I had the day I got the phone call from my parents was with a prof who was wonderful and understanding and let me turn in my assignment and go home β without it counting against my absences β so I could grieve in private because, as she said, I had just lost a family member. It was almost a week before I could make it through an entire day without crying.
Inky has a little grave plot in our backyard now that my dad turned into a little flower bed, with an engraved block of granite for a marker. It's been 7 and a half years since we lost her, so now every time we let our current dog, Sushi, outside and we see her little flower bed we just think about all of the happy times we had with her and all the cute things she used to do instead of being sad about the fact that she's not with us anymore.
Although it doesn't help at all right now, it will get easier. I fully believe that our fur babies have souls and will be faithfully waiting for us on the other side when we eventually get there ourselves.

Well, it's mostly traditional. (I wish there was a category for that.) The shades of gray are done in Photoshop, but the inking is done by hand. As for getting a clean look... er, I suppose I have steady hands?
