Description Where to begin, this one has a fairly interesting backstory... lesse...

i suppose being a fairly unsocial and loner type person (only in real life hah ; ) has its benefits... unlike many of my peers i do not enjoy going out to 'social' places such as clubs blah blah... so this leaves me with a good amount of free time on my hands during weekends and such... so, this in turn leads to boredom... and i guess i could say that photography has become a major one of those solutions... anyways, shortly before i was taking a lot of pictures, i found it fun to wander around the university i attend in the middle of the night(along the lines of 12-5am)... during these times, i just go into buidlings(since this is a university many of the buildings r open) and see what interesting places i can get into. ive been on many of the roofs of the buildings around here, and in other places that the average student prolly didnt think existed(places like this photo). to make it interesting, i check many many doors to see if they r unlocked(and many times they r!). this prolly could be a good way to get myself arrested, but i dont really care, it was(and is) a lot of fun...

after a while i started bringing my camera and tripod with me, this is how i got shots like the above, [link] and [link] .

anyways, whats pictured in the photo above is one of the more interesting places i found on my first night...
there was a door that looked like it led to maybe some kinda janitors closet, but when i tried to open it this is what i saw. i was amazed, it was a really exhilerating feeling. im not sure exactly what this skinny room is used for, but i found that there was one on every floor of that building... i could see the other levels above me, because the floor was just that grated metal u can see in the photo... this was the one on the first floor, and it actually led down to a basement... very fun exploring...

i have about 4 more that i took down there but this one is by far the best...

jesus this is a long desciption... anyways, here r the more technical aspects:
errr, i forgot the film, it was either fuji astia 100 or kodak elitechrome 100, come to think of it it was prolly the kodak... im pretty sure
hmmm, it seems ive also forgot the exact exposure(i wouldnt call any of my exposures exact, as i never think to myself before a photo 'hmm im gonna expose this for xxx seconds,' i just expose til i feel its ready lol) but it was prolly around 10-15 secs(at f5.6, as usual), thats prolly what id have done for this shot
pentax H3 with 80B filter
cropped a bit in photoshop...

sorry for this longwinded description

this is my favorite of yours -you opened the doorway to the industrial dimension -anyway, I hope you didn't leave it open-you don't want that stuff leaking out.

...colouration is stunning
you have a wonderful eye for capturing beautiful shots...

and aye...i know what you mean by walking about at night with the camera...it seems there are hordes of deviants who occupy their time this way...afterall, it is rather soothing...peaceful and quiet

Wow. I loved the description, it's nice to hear where the artist is coming from, what they were thinking etc. The blueish color on the pipes is just so striking. I love the way the light bounces off of them, and then how back where the door leads it gets really darke and mysterious. Really makes me wonder whats back there.
I think it's a wonderful photo and description.

sometimes the stories behind photos are almost as interesting as the photos themselves.... although in this case you'd be hard pressed to top the stories this photo implies all on its own. i'm thinking a deep ocean rift rig about to be beseiged by somthing that has never seen the light of day....
what really draws me to this is the fact that when i used to go to school (in tallahassee...erk) there was absolutely nothing to do if you didn't want to get piss drunk w/frat boys at a keg party. although i did my share of keg stands i usually ended up doing much the same thing- breaking into buildings and exploring. i found an entire floor underneath the music building filled with upright pianos and an indoor pool that was perfect for ski- er, swimming. someone stole my camera and portfolio shortly after i drop- er, moved away (lesson 1- don't keep your negatives in your portfolio) but this brings back some pleasant memories.
sorry to ramble on- to keep it short- great shot!

yea there is light commin from below(the basement)... the bluish/greenish colors in here r prolly due to 2 things, the film and the filter... this film does stuff like this under more white flourescant lighting like this when exposed for longer exposures and i was usin an 80B filter which is way more noticable in whiter light like this, normally its there to reduce the effects of the yellow light thats on all over the place at night... this is all speculation i dunno for sure, and also, when i scanned i put up the saturation a bit to where i was satisfied it looked similar to the slide in the right light...
