Monday, April 15, 1912. 2:12a. North Atlantic Ocean

Anna followed the crowd surging astern, the ship groaned beneath her.
The lights on the forward end flickered out, those on the stern glowed dull red.

First came the rumble. Then a crescendoing moan. Then snapping planks and shearing metal, a deafening roar as Titanic’s hull buckled beneath the strain of lifting its tail skyward. As the stern crashed back down Anna was flung from the bulwark, and she fell screaming into the darkness.

Note: Anna’s nightmares often replay this scene. Until she and Marco began dating, her mind added Monty grabbing her hand and throwing her down with a devilish grin.
