Description
Carpathia began collecting the survivors as dawn broke over the Atlantic. Lifeboat 14 soon drew alongside the steamer, and its occupants either climbed the jacobs ladder or were lifted aboard in a sling. Anna was brought aboard by the latter, and Cara quickly took the wounded lady’s side as the sling reached the gangway door.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t get here sooner. But I made it regardless, so you don’t need to worry any longer. I’ll keep you and your survivors safe.”
“I….Thanks for coming at all….” As Anna took a step with her right leg it gave out, leaving her with a pained expression and nearly choking with tears. “Ow…..god, it hurts…”
“I’ll need to get you to sick bay.” Cara put her patient’s arm across her shoulders and helped her find her footing. “But after that you can sleep with me in my room.”
“No…No, I couldn’t.”
“Trust me, your skin feels ice-cold. The least I can do is help you warm up.”
Anna couldn’t reply. Her only response was a pitiful, frightened look at her savior. Cara didn’t know yet, but Anna was left severely traumatized by the sinking and would need a considerable amount of time to recover.
