"We'll be remembered more for what we destroy than what we create." β Chuck Palahniuk (Invisible Monsters)The monster is conceptualized from tree, anglerfish and the angry god from Princess Mononoke. It's a forest spirit I'd like to include in an original story.
The boy is also a monster and both are running from humans... His name is Jiang and he will be the main character.
This picture is too advanced for my painting skill but I wanted to try anyway. My understanding of depth/lighting is very weak too, but I think I've learned from the attempt all the same. I would love critique.

Anyway I honestly don't find much to critique about this picture. I really like this painting style... it's like a more elegant version of paper mache: like they are many different "pieces" of shading and coloring. The greens and browns are really nice 
The only thing that I guess could be tweaked a little is to change the texture of the monster; after all tentacles and scales(?) are different from hair, skin, and clothes. :3

Ideally, I'd make an animation for it but I have a loottt more training to do first.
I guess the kind of coloring would be... "well-lit." Yuumei's work is a big inspiration for me. Rougher/layered painting feels more true to me though because seeing the digital "brushwork" makes me happy. OTL

XDDDD Hahahaha omg Yuumei... that girl makes me want to forsake my pencil... orz But yeah her style is really paint-like / more textures than "digital shinyness" and I think the whole brush-like look works better for the mood of this picture than digital shinyness anyway : ] And hahaha it's ok, we all have our artist quirks :> I have bad ones though HAHAHARRRRR orz
