...and that was the last time Light saved anyone...in case it isn't clear Light's a lifeguard and he just saved L who decided it was fun to splash Light.

yup. I'm doing this because the prize list is like 11239810928 lines long. so yeah. and uhm. yeah.
well everyone seemed to do spiderman and I really couldn't imagine either of them in tights, so I decided to go for a more... normal hero. Sorry if that doesn't work.
but yeah, you can see my attempt at a background. blehh. I looked at tutorials for the water but it still doesn't look right. and the composition is horrible.
But hopefully if I keep trying...

L is the black-haired and Light (also known as Raito in japanese) is the brown-haired.
L's real name is revealed later on in the manga, but in the beginning no one knows.
