I use a standard format for my IDs. I do a drawing of myself the way I look when I'm working on art. I've seen a lot of people use sort of "characters" of themselves rather than how they actually look, so I guess that would work too. I also put a lot of effort into it so that it shows what I'm capable of. I worked on this one most of April and kept tweaking it until I posted it in June. Then slap it over a grey background and you're good to go.
The key things I put in my ID are my "name," age, and then the Likes, Dislikes, Good At, and Bad At. It's kinda fun to think up things that would go well in each category. If you look at my other IDs I've used in the past I don't reuse anything (even though I REALLY hate avocados haha).
So that's what I do for mine. If you look around there are a lot of people who do "ID challenges." Like challenge people to answer questions about themselves in their IDs or make an ID in a certain style. For a while some of my friends had IDs drawn and colored only with their left hand (or right hand if they were lefties...)
Good luck!
